Hi,
I’m new here and previously owned a ‘54 plate ML 270 CDi Inspiration for four years.
Drove incredibly beautifully and used to ‘whoosh’ around corners. Used to eat the miles up wether in Cornwall or the Lake District with ease. So a seriously comfy drive, cool looking and most importantly a Mercedes.
After spending over £4k in four years on having every injector seal replaced, rear wheel speed sensor sorted (which turned out to be the front loom chaffing on the n/s wishbone!!), seized front track rod ends, replaced, rear shocks and dog bolts replaced and a steering angle sensor light permanently on (sensor was halfway down the steering rack) I sold the car.
Tyres and oil servicing is a given but £4k?!
I was very unlucky or rather Mercs drive supurbly but don’t age well at all?
I had a Ford Transit for over 10 years that didn’t cost more than £500 in repair bills.
SO, I’ve been looking at ML 350’s ‘08 to ‘61 plate models under 80k miles so is there any genuine words of encouragement for the W164 reliability [I have a go-to injector while you wait specialist on speed dial 😁] ?
Youtube throws up oil coolers buried deep under the middle engine cover that leak and also need seals replaced AND suspension seems very pricey to replace if the 100k bogey man should comeknocking?
Thing is the drive is fantastic and that when you put that Merc keyring on a shop counter, the service goes up a notch. 😎
Thanks in advance.
Regards and Respect.

I can’t help you regarding specifics of the 350 but I can say that the W164 is a big step forward from the W163. You won’t regret it. Don’t dismiss an ML63, the engine is incredible and really shouldn’t work in a big heavy SUC but it’s perfect for the job 👍🏻
