Just passing on info i recieved form my HR department....

Maybe you have heard about this but early next week all UK mobiles will be on a directory which will mean that anyone will be able to access the numbers. It is easy to unsubscribe but it must be done before the beginning of next week to make sure that you are ex directory. We have all unsubscribed and you may want to suggest it to all your friends and family who have UK mobiles or they could be swamped by unsolicited messages and calls. Removal is recommended by the BBC - see link below.

The Directory of Mobile Phone numbers goes live next week.
All numbers including those belonging to children will be open to cold calling and the general abuse that less scrupulous telesales people subject us too.

To remove your number go here. (you need your mobile phone with you to do this, they text you a code)

Yes, I've gone on their ex-directory list. They are marketing this as havnig 15m numbers. I wonder how many million of those will have unsubscribed by the time the service goes live?!

i've just done all the mobiles in the household, takes approx 2 - 3 mins per handset.

* We NEVER sell your mobile phone number to anyone – including sales organisations

I have to view this with a modicum of suspicion. I've had the same mobile number ever since mobile phones were the size of house bricks, but as I'm very careful about who I give the number out to, I hardly ever get an unsolicited call. The last one was over a year ago, now I think about it.

The company in question claim to have a list of 15 million mobile numbers out of the 40 million in circulation. What better way to increase the amount of numbers on their database than by causing a media panic and thereby getting previously unknown numbers to "unsubscribe"? Maybe this is just my late night cynicism kicking in..

Oh yes... never an opportunity lost in DATAWORLD.

When you opt out online, the IP address will also be recorded with the number of course. I doubt anything is ever not captured or deleted nowadays.

There is rather too much of this assumed consent nonsense going on too in more and more areas, where things default to the way they want it unless you make an input.

They have compiled their list from phones at point of sale through various retail outlets. As we all know thousands of phones are junked every week. What better way to confirm a phone is still active by getting the owners to phone in to tell you?

I cant be ar$ed to tell the truth. There is so much info on everybody flying around in cyberspace right now that another little piece is unworthy of concern.
And as a BTB, unregistered PAYG mobiles cant be listed anyway.

Not sure, but although I got that email, I decided not to unsubscribe after reading the details on their website. I can see the benefits of the service if someone is trying to find you, plus if they are willing to pay £1 for passing you their information to contact them back it could be genuine. All these girls that wanted to get in touch with me now they can. )))
