I noticed today while reading a trade newspaper that Allianz have announced that they will load insurance premiums for drivers convicted of using a mobile phone by 30%. Previously they'd loaded the premium by the same amount as they would for a speeding conviction, but now feel it is appropriate to make it the same loading as a conviction for careless driving.

If one large company chooses to do this, I am sure others will follow.

Lets hope this is a deterrent, though I fear many will simply continue to break the law. Far too many people just ignore the law and use their hand held phones.

Young women nearly hit me on the way home tonight but this failed to interrupt the phone call she was on which was obviously far more important than driving with due car and attention:mad:

Good  So many people use mobiles while driving, you'd think they'd repealed the law
The unfortunate fact is that many people have never stopped using a hand-held mobile while driving. All these sanctions are well and good but the chances of being caught in the act are slim, partly because most Police forces have reduced their traffic patrols to the point of invisibility, and the perpetrators know it.

Perhaps a high-profile advertising campaign (like the drink-drive ones that run on a seasonal basis) would have an impact where the threat of ever increasing sanctions has demonstrably failed?

Perhaps they should make thinking about sex illegal while driving, it would be about as easy to enforce and nearly as pointless...................
