Mercedes c class estate
Afternoon all, new member here. Currently looking to buy a C Class estate, w205.

Narrowed it down to a few options and found one that is 'sat Nav ready'

When calling to get an explanation they say the 'module' is missing hence the reduced price.

Does anyone know if this is a simple plug and play module I can puck up after buying the car and roughly how much, to establish if the car is indeed a good deal.

Thanks in advance,

Derek

I think you really need to know why it was taken out. If I remember correctly the cost of the COMAND as an option when new was over £2K. You might pick up a used unit for a few hundred but there is no guarantee that it will work. There are after market units available but it wouldn't be Mercedes and therefore would not offer the same functions as the original. Unless they have a really good reason why it is missing or giving a good discount it is whether you want to take on the work and are prepared for whatever problems they might not be telling you.

Hi, yeah you might be right. They said that possibly someone has just removed it to sell second hand, but as all the equipment was there it was as simple as plugging in. I assumed it was just the control box in glove compartment or the like, didn't realise it may be part of command, and certainly not a good enough deal to merit ££££'s. Thanks

Isn't the 205 sat nav system a Garmin Map Pilot fitted in a cradle in the glove box, rather than built in to the Comand system? That might be what the seller means. If so, I think they can often be picked up second hand on Ebay or new from Comand.co.uk or MB, but there may also be some STAR coding involved.

Mine has Comand, garmin was another option though.

Ok, I'm pretty sure it is a Garmin, and those look to be around £100-150 so might be worth a go for the right price. Assume if it's been installed factory, then coding should already be there?

Thanks for the replies so far guys

Yes probably stolen at some point or could have been removed if a lease car and lost.

Your other option is th dealer doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

If a Garmin setup the car can come without the Garmin software which you load via an optional purchased SD card.

I know the S205 fairly well (w205 is the saloon variant), though mine is fully specced including COMAND.

That said, it goes back next month, they promise more than they deliver.
