i have tried lots of back to black e.t.c on door handles and trim but moisturising cream really is the dogs brings all the black up like new, have a try and see.

I used love!

I think I'll stick with the moisturiser..

Seriously, the black ornamental arches on my 210 have (so far) immovable finger prints that I can't shift.

I'll give it a whirl tomorrow and report back. :thumb:

iv been told baby oil,but i afraid of getting cought with it i might not be beleived

How about sunscreen, they moisturise and it's got uv protection so should prevent fading for longer? Worth a shot eh?

Not out to spoil a nice idea, but surely one of the proprietary car products would be cheaper/more effective than stuff for your skin :o

Some of the 'trim black' stuff is more of a colourant (black wax) than a dressing. Stuff like tyre dressing, bumper care etc tends to be more 'cream' based and would give a similar effect :)

Nice idea though if you're short of a particular product though :thumb:

The official MB part name depending on model IIRC.

Here they are.

You can see the mucky paw prints on mine that I need to get rid of. :o

Polish ought to sort that - something gentle like Autoglym Super Resin Polish - will have a light cutting action, and then leave a protective coating/seal.

Yep - I agree, nice soft microfibre cloth and a mild polish like SRP will clean those trims up nicely :thumb:

Thanks for the tip guys.

It just so happens I have some Autoglym SRP to use on the whole car next weekend. :bannana:

Also heard that smooth peanut butter works well too, but havent tried it myself.

I use this on a late model 124 Cabriolet, door handles, wiper base etc. One application lasts about a summer in our high UV.

Vaseline petroleum jelly is a long-recognised engineering lubricant for various plastics e.g. the screw threads on old Bakelite light fittings. Cleans and makes them nice and glossy too. Just a thought...

Baby oil OTOH is a liquid paraffin, a major constituent in most of these products, it is a mineral oil.
