I had Steve NL install a comand in my W209 a month ago and a graet job he did too.
The system will not read my phonebook only my sim which is a problem as the sim does not hold all my numbers
The other Steve suggested I get the dealer to tick the extended features
which I got done today, still no joy
Software version of the Nokia is 4.80

Any Ideas anybody ?

Also if I leave the phone in the cradle in the armrest and turn the ignition off it powers the phone down - any way on having continous power to the phone as in the standard cradle handsfree kit operation.

Regards

That's interesting to know - you have saved me going to the dealer to get the extended features activated now, as I had noticed the same on mine - with SIM numbers only !

As for the power issue - fitted my COMAND phone kit last week, and wired to an ignition live source. I believe the way that COMAND works though - if it's switched on and you turn off the igntion, COMAND will turn off as well - probably killing the phone kit with it, regardless of what source the kit is attached to. Not sure - as haven't tried, but as I know my phone is only wired to be powered when the ignition is on anyway at the moment it makes no difference ! I should probably change this, althought bit worried about current drain if I wire it to a permanent 12v live.

I'm certain my phone kit feed is perm live . It still switches off after a while though not necesarily with the ignition.

Maybe your phone software needs updating to 5.51 (latest as per Paul Graingers post )

I dont store numbers in my phone only on the sim but I wil test later & reprt back.

The OEM phonekit powers down the phone in the cradle after 10-15 min . When you start the car back up it will power it back on.

Its quite handy as i keep leaving the phone betweent he seats and at least it goes streight onto voicemail rather than someone thinking im ignoring them.

No issues with my phone Ver 5.10 ( 11/09/02 )

Hi Fuzzer

Can comand read your phonebook and does your phone get hot if its been in the armrest for over an hour.
Mine does and it really annoys me I can't read my numbers

Kevin

I think fuzzer is referring to the Nokia OEM CARK-91 kit - (not linked to COMAND)

Fuzzer is actually refering to the OEM carkit connected to an audio 20 actuallty sym :P

and yes the whole phonebook can be read. Ive not noticed it getting hot either.

Well, honestly !! If you will persist in owning multiple cars !! ;) :p

Have just been out to check this out on my W209. Was factory fitted for a 6210i (in the armrest) and Comand, but recently DIY upgraded the PSE (to A 203 820 51 85 ) so I could use my 6310i (SW ver 5.50).

Can confirm it reads from SIM & Phone.

Correction . . . just saved a number to the phonebook - switched the phonebook memory settings on the phone to "SIM & Phonebook" , and tried with COMAND - it now reads them all.

Software version on my phone is 5.22

Same PSE as Ralph's - above.

In case anyone with a 6310i is interested... A maintenance SW release was produced yesterday. Version is 5.52. Should be available at service centres in the near future (if not now), if you want to upgrade.

I have noticed a 'quirk' regarding phone book access. If I put my phone into the cradle, already turned on, then comand will not see the phone book, call lists etc. I tried waiting, and waiting, and waiting. It just doesn't happen. The phone can be used OK, all other functions work (steering wheel buttons etc etc)
If, however, the phone is put into the cradle turned off, and then the comand is used to turn the phone on, then the phone book is picked up in approx 20 seconds.
Strange, really......

What's your phone kit wired to Steve ?

I took the power feed from the ISO A perm live connection & earth from pin 8, all connected to comand in the 203

Do you mean that the phone powers off after 10 minutes when in the car cradle?

The phone only powers off when you leave the phone in the cradle after parking up. Not whilst driving.

On my new e class I read something abot making an entry in the phone's address book which instructs the car not to turn the phone off when the ignition is switched off. Does your manual mention this?
