As the most excellent car that Jay sold me has racked up the miles and road grime I decided to treat her to a special something.

A DIY detail.

Basically I washed the car, clayed it and waxed it.

Look at the beading

But the worst thing to do is to wash a car and not drive it, so I had to take it out. Stops her discs getting rusty.

I decided a mini tour down the old Glen Fruin road was in order. Its a small single tracker but not far from home and gives that feeling of being in the highlands. Techically it is the highlands, its just above the fault line.

She likes it here

You can see good relfections in the paint, not a common thing in a silver car. However silver is the correct colour to have a Mercedes in and it really suits it

As I worked my way down the Glen, you can see the weather improving. This is good, it dries her out. Up into this frame is the fast road, the legendary A817 that connects Faslane to the A82 at Loch Lomond. Top Gear voted it the 7th best driving road in the UK. And it is awesome, so I went back this way.

At the top of the Glen, the old road climbs up, and you can really use the 295 torques to blast round the bends and up the hill. Being a sport C class the handling is A1, sharp, tidy and controlled but perfectly relaxing.

Good job the hill down is steep, helps use those brakes.

After this, I blasted over the A817 and relished in the cars prodigous handling and made sure I didn't get it dirty.

This wee drive made my day, driving a C class is uplifting and joyful.

This is wrong on so many levels, haven't you learnt you cannot "Detail" your own car, you MUST pay a professional forum advertiser, contributing member to do it for you, AND promise to buy all your potions and lotions off them for life.

Anyway, the car looks just as good as if you had spent £100's and you have more left over for fuel.

Nice pics. (of everything but the bucket, sponge, magic potions, towels, etc)

Fascinating.

Clay bar and lubricant (better to use QD than water but water is ok) a tenner. Wax, giant tub lasted me 3yrs and I have 1/4 left two tenners. Some old rags, free.

Plus it took me an hour maybe 90mins and was good exercise. People will get as much exercise going to a gym that they pay to use when they have a car to clean that will give them that exercise, gratis.

It's what Sundays are for! :thumb:

But instead of going out driving it, how about sweeping all those leaves up? :D

Merc fan shows his pride and joy on a Merc forum - what's not to like? :dk:.

Nothing, its good to tell a happy car story. I told one on Friday night too.

My estate car is a complete and total success story so far. :thumb::thumb:

The haters just realise they made the wrong choice of colour,...

Interestingly cleaning a car tells you a lot about its life. Usually at the clay bar stage. The clay bar stage was uncannily easy, leading me to believe it was done to this car before my ownership. I clayed the roof, much more resistance. Lazy previous owner never bothered up there. Probably too short to reach over the roof rails. I've clayed a car with 10k miles on fresh paint, and it was harder work than after the washing of this car....

Its been pampered.

Nah! Prefer my colour.

Nah! Prefer my colour.

It's almost silver, so you are forgiven.

The old fruin road would be a nice one for you do when you are hear BTW. It gives a very different prespective of the Glen to the A817. From there, you can work your way to the A814 and drive up Loch Long too, or turn off along the A814 and head over Glen Douglas back to Loch Lomond.

Basically I took it to my local car wash.

Look at the bikinis.

You keep the stain, acts as a reminder about the good kebab.

I have a small stain from a very satisfying bar of Cadburys bubbles. You know the 100g bar for £1. Anyway the mark looks like I crapped myself but it's ok. I know it was chocolate.

I hate leather seats.

Was wondering why a young single guy like you wanted an estate with blacked out rear windows...

The only thing wrong with that car is the badge... the numbers should begin with a '3'

Two problems though. Engines starting with 3 mean 7g boxes. And cars with big engines tend to be specd with things like leather seats that I don't want.

The cars honestly fast enough not to miss the two extra cylinders.

Viva la difference. I love my black 350 with 7g box and leather. But I have to agree that your silver machine looks good, especially in that location. Did you have to clean all the brake dust off again after the run? (That's the part of cleaning that takes me as long as the rest of the car every time :wallbash: Or is it just that all that bending down makes it seem like a long time?)
