2009 C220 CDI Sport Estate
Hi there,

Just had my 2009 c220cdi sport estate booked in for its furst MOT today. It passed but got picked up on the brakes all being worn(pads and discs-front and back) and also excessive plany on the anti roll bar. The anti roll bar is getting done under warranty tomorrow, but they quoted £700 for the brakes. I usually do the brakes myself, is anyone able to help with part numbers and which brands to go for wether it be oem or aftermarket? The car currently has drilled brakes on the front so would like to keep them similar is possible.

Also anywhere good to order these up?

Thanks in advance.

Surprised the rear discs need doing at 2 year old.

Yes me too. It was picked up last month at a service also, but they said they would last through winter. I will get them changed out in jan but i can get all the parts ready. Hopefully its easy enough todo.....

Does the advisory mean they need doing straight away or just possibly before the next MoT? If your mileage is low enough it may even pass next year's MoT with the same brakes.

But regardless, when you do need them replacing Franey would be a good place to get a quote from.

Yeh it will just be a warning. Was looking to change them out once all the snow had gone, but its not shown up yet!! Im moving house in january and will have a nice new double garage so i will get them all fitted then along with a good clean!

I Have Pm'd Franey so will see soon how much its going to cost...

It does seem very early to need new discs especially on the rear. Our CLK had new front discs recently for the first time at just over 8 years old. The rears are still original - as are the rear pads.

with ref brakes it all depends on how we drive and how hard we all brake town driving or m/way this all make a huge different in wear :bannana:

Why does he do cheap original parts?

He does cheap OEM and quality equivalent parts, you need Euromerc for cheap genuine MB parts. (if that matters for brakes)

MOT = 3 YEARS OLD Although rear brakes don't do the bulk of the braking they do seem to suffer more corrosion and scoring than the front discs. For all the extra cost if you do decide to renew the rear discs might be worth renewing the hand brake brake shoes and return springs at the same time.

I would not say Im a light driver...

Any idea what size the discs are on my car..there seems to be 2 options either 288mm(Bosch?) or 330mm(Brembo??)

£700 seems to excessive! The parts of genuine Merc brakes for your car if I am not wrong is about £300 or so I was last old earlier this year by Mercedes-Benz.

I have a 2007 C180 Sport (Same shape as yours).

yeah got a quote this afternoon just for parts and it was £330 inc new sensors. There seems to be a few companies out there trying to offer non drilled but would rather keep the car as its meant to be.

I reccomend buying original parts, however get them fitted by a good indie or ring around Mercedes dealers for quotes, tell them the best quote you get and see if they can beat it?

I reckon you can get the total price around £500
