:( My 2003 270cdi is running fine but it is as if it is stuck in winter mode. It will not rev more tham 3000 rpm, and will not kick down and go!!!! I have just had it serviced new oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter. no difference!!!! Any ideas??? Thanks Stu

Is it that it won't rev when stationary- if so they don't because they have a limiter. If it won't go above 3000rpm when moving then do a search because others have been here before.

Possible MAF failure after the air filter change, or turbo actuator, resonance flaps stuck or EGR valve stuck.

Take it back to the dealer and have the codes read.

A diesel will rev all the way to the red when in neutral

Apologies-is it just ptrols that are limited then?

Yes. Not really sure why but I suspect it's because they can rev higher and are built less strongly so the risk of damage is greater when the engine is not under load.

Revving any engine into the red when under load wont harm it, it's when it's not under load that the pistons can break free.

A diesel is revved to the governor for the MOT test..
I wonder how many petrol cars would fail emissions tests if they were subjected to the same type of test.?.

Not sure if it's relevant but I had a vito a few years ago that had exactly the same symptoms after a service.
Turned out to be a silly little rubber boost pipe thing had been popped off, easy fix and might be worth looking for.

:bannana: it was the maf sensor
this was diagnosed by a mate with a snap on fault finder
£50 for the sensor
It goes like a rocket:devil:

Its great when you get your motor back to normal, you feel all proud of your mercedes again, as you should. Good News.
