Hello all.

Recently joined your forum, but have been reading over your pointers for weeks.

I read about Carwow and how this would give you an idea of discount that may be available. This allows you to get discount you may have missed out on.

I phoned and arranged a test drive with Giffnock MB, we had a chat on the phone about discount and they said they wouldn't be far away on price. I had been in one day prior to Christmas and the salesman was very good and not pushy however this fella was off on the sick, so someone else would look after me.

I booked the test drive for a C250Amg and made the 90 mile trip, it was a wet day in February; bloody wet. I arrived on time we had a quick chat and he went and got the car reversed it to the showroom door (still wet), I jumped in and well.... the car was dirty on the outside as the roads were black with salt and grime, however the inside.. it was worse; the footwell was full of mud, dirt, stones, bits of pine needles and to top it off bits of a Twix!

Anyway we proceeded on the test drive, me not being used to the auto thought the car was a wee bit flat but put it down to my driving. I got 9 miles of a test drive! I had drove 90miles!! We got back and it was now dry and had a look round the car, the car was a lovely but dirty, however when I went to the boot I spotted the badge it was a 220d, I said I had booked a test drive in a 250d, the reply; we don't have one for you to test drive!

Anyway we went inside and the salesman thought he would produce the thumb screws. So have you got your wallet, "eh no I have forgot it" I had forgot it that morning rushing about and getting a two year old to nursery and all that.
How were you going to buy the car today? I wasn't was my reply; I wanted a test drive with a view to purchasing one, just not today. I wanted to take my wife and let her have a drive in the car. He then said I hope you have plenty of fuel in the tank to get you home. I said I did. So anyway we parted company at that and I said I would think about the deal. I did to my word phone him back and say it wasn't for me. I didn't elaborate, the car was what I was looking for but it just wouldn't be from that dealership.

Just wondered if anyone else has had any poor service from a "prestige" MB dealership?

Part 2 to come later....
Sorry it was a long post.

Interesting post.... I suppose what the Internet does is put pressure on car dealers not just to offer better prices but also to offer better service - because if they don't then it is very easy to find someone else.

A pity that you had such poor service from the dealer. I haven't purchased a car through an Internet site, so am guessing, but I suspect that the main thing the dealer has to offer is the personal service. If they fall down on that then why would anyone bother using them? I've been well looked after in the past by Mercedes-Benz of Guildford and, more recently, Mercedes-Benz at Brooklands (I saw the car on their website on the Tuesday evening, spoke to them about it on the Wednesday and placed a refundable deposit, visited on the Thursday to inspect and test drive the car, drove home with it the same day with the car serviced, an up-to-date satnav SD card fitted, a new set of mats, and StarGard treatment applied. Oh, and a nice cup of tea!

I never intended to buy a car over the internet, just wanted an idea of what was available in the way of discount so I was better informed when I went to a MB dealer. You would of thought some of the bigger companies would have better sales practices.?? Then again....

My first test drive was not good but my second test drive of the car I wanted to drive was a whole lot better.:D

OP, entertaining post! The way you started it seemed the dealership was the closest to you and that they would closely match the best MB price, but 90 miles is a long way for local!

That salesperson's behaviour would have certainly put me off too. Cheeky asking about your wallet. On our house-hunting I dropped an agency immediately with their pushy, sarcastic agent unable to get his head around why I didn't like a house that he was convinced "ticked all" my " boxes".

All the best for your purchase, sounds like you're going the right way about it (admittedly there is more than one right way!)
