C180
Morning everyone,

Here’s the problem I have.
I have had my C180 parked up in my garage for 2 years while living away from home.
I tried to start it yesterday (old battery has been charged), but the engine turns over, but won’t fire, have checked spark plugs (no spark) and no fuel coming from the fuel pump, plus I don’t hear any noise from the fuel pump when I turn the key.

Can you advise how to remedy my problem? I don’t need a hefty garage bill at the moment

Many thanks

Welcome. Have all the fuses been checked...

Theres three things here:

1. If your fuel pump is not working, have you tried the relay (usually in the boot near tyre, give it a tap or cross wire it as it can build up debris on the contacts inside the relay.

2. IF the plugs are not sparking this is unusal and could be a few things.

3. Did you add new fuel as being left for 2 yrs it becomes stagnant.

Also note that if possible, remove the old fuel in the tank and then add new fresh fuel. I was watching a video by the well-known Mercedessource youtube channel (Kent B) and he really emphasized to not start a car with fuel that's been sitting for more than 2-3 years+ or mix new fuel with old fuel. This may damage your fuel system such as pumps, injectors and filters.

I personally would call a professional fuel service who can completely drain the old fuel out of the system...if not the system, atleast the fuel tank or alternatively do it yourself (if possible). Then add some new fresh fuel and some injector cleaner, to lubricate and clean the possibly dirty fuel system components. Then after doing this, I would start to look for the issue(s) preventing the start-up. Good luck and I hope that you get it up and running.

Morning everyone,

I would like to thank all, who have taken the time out to write a reply to my plight.

The car is a P (’97) Reg, not sure which model (W202/3) it is.
This weekend I will try to get my baby started. I have bought a new fuel pump relay; will check all the fuses and the battery is on charge. Taking A1EK & Mbenz1 advice, I will empty out the fuel tank of the petrol and will replenish with a fresh batch.

Once again, thank you all for your input.

I would check for a spark too.
