Just changed thermostat, and there's a line running from somewhere below the thermostat to the top of the engine (it has a white plunger-type mechanism at the end of it) and as it's not connected to anything, does anyone have a clue what it is.... will try to get pics.

engine is a W210 E320 Cdi.

Merry Xmas!

ok, this is the part... i discovered that it bloody well is important. When others say to take care when fitting the Thermostat to go easy in the (very brittle) fuel lines, this is why.

I've now got to figure out a way to repair the end that the pen in the picture is pointing to, it's a plastic T-section, and i'm guessing duct tape isn't going to get me by. I'm thinking epoxy resin or fibre glass compound? i'm pretty sure i've picked the worst day of the year, I doubt I'm getting a replacement part from MB any time before the new year.

Started the car up, fired once, then died... checked to see if the Thermostat was sealed, and saw liquid underneath the thermostat. Turned out it was diesel, whizzing out of the hole where this line was attached, draining from a line heading to the top of the block.

Any ideas before i mess things up more?

Get a new pipe. Dealers stock them. Repairing it wont work.

That thing at the end is to test low fuel pressure

Thanks Olly.

Will save myself a messy job and be patient.
