Nevada Police deal with climate protestors

The irony of them causing a huge tailback of Yank Tanks all idling to keep the A/C running seems to have gone waaaay over their heads.:wallbash:

Well , they were both really , and so entitled before the police arrived

My point was that no one has an issue with people demonstrating against climate change, or drilling for oil, or anything else, as long as they do so legally.

Fwiw, looking at that queue of those vehicles really brings it home just how irrelevant any steps we make to adress climate change, if the Yanks don't !

Of course - they can protest all they want , but we don’t have to agree with them .

We still need coal , oil and gas , partly for economic reasons ; also because viable alternatives are not yet in place .

As an oil producing country ourselves we should not be held to ransom by others , with people being forced to pay high energy prices .

The irony of these people protesting about climate change, nee global warming, in the Nevada desert with not a cloud in the sky. A perfect example of the suns radiation being lost into the cold of space. No global warming there.:D

I think that the issue is that the increased concentration of CO2 in the earth's atmosphere supercharges the planet's natural greenhouse effect and contributes to global warming.

It's the Goldilocks effect - to much heat reflected back into space and we'll all freeze to death, to much heat absorbed by the planet and will all roast. We want to try and keep the planet 'just right'...

Should be a training video for our police force & a must watch for Sunak on how to deal with protestors stopping people going on their legal journeys

What is the ideal CO2 level? Pre industrial levels were all over the place. Explanation? Could it be possible that we should expect CO2 levels to vary as history demonstrates that is the reality.

Also lets not forget about the watervapour, also known as clouds. A significant influence on the greenhouse effect. What shall we do about the clouds? We live on a globe so the hot equitorial tropics are always going to carry water vapour up into the atmosphere. Best to leave nature alone i would say. Earths natural balance always wins.

It's important for us Brits to understand these aren't police, they are Rangers and I have a feeling the land they patrol is Tribal. So they aren't governed by the same laws as "regular" police.

So there's State law, federal law and sometimes local law enforcement regualtions. It's not quite always so clear cut.

Rangers are effectively the military/paramilitary arm of law enforcement, hence their approach to this particular group of "protestors".

The closest thing we ever had was the TSG in the 80's - they didn't go down to well with the namby pamby faction of British society and were disbanded.

Correct, it was stated elsewhere in the media that these were Tribal Rangers.

My point remains that it's about us getting just the right amount of heat from the sun.

Pointing to the bright and hot desert sun on a clear day is neither here nor there when it comes to global warming discussion.

Some of those 'climate' protestors appeared to be resisting arrest. Quite serious consequences possibly turning a misdemeanor into a felony in the states?

I suppose it is if you buy into the utter nonsense people like Al Gore have been repeating ad infinitum.

There is no 'correct' level of CO2 in earths atmosphere. I would be fascinated to hear how you think humans can mitigate the sun being at its most powerful at the equator which forces water vapour into the atmosphere. A fundamental influence on earths climate.

Perhaps this is in the wrong place, its Black Rock City, the place all these people who were held up & were trying to get to. Incredible, if I was a lot younger it would be on my must visit list, enjoy

Just Google 'Goldilocks planet', it's actually a term used by astrophysicists to describe a 'just right' planet, it will explain the concept in full.

And, BTW, one of the reasons that some scientists believe that we may be alone in the universe (or at least in the Milky Way galaxy), is not because the spontaneous emergence of life is a rare event, but because a planet with a reasonably-stable history for the past 4bn years is apparently quite rare - the universe is a violent place (The various ICE ages and other earthly catastrophes are just minor fluctuations in cosmic terms). According to this theory, life might be happening all the time on other planets in our galaxy, but the planets never remain stable for long enough for it to develop beyond single-cell organisms, if that. Interesting reading, I recommend it.
