Nevada Police deal with climate protestors

Some of those 'climate' protestors appeared to be resisting arrest. Quite serious consequences possibly turning a misdemeanor into a felony in the states?
Probably not as they were Tribal police who I am guessing have limited powers

Perhaps this is in the wrong place, its Black Rock City, the place all these people who were held up & were trying to get to. Incredible, if I was a lot younger it would be on my must visit list, enjoy

The climate caused a shit load more grief than the protesters did.

Just Google 'Goldilocks planet', it's actually a term used by astrophysicists to describe a 'just right' planet, it will explain the concept in full.

And, BTW, one of the reasons that some scientists believe that we may be alone in the universe (or at least in the Milky Way galaxy), is not because the spontaneous emergence of life is a rare event, but because a planet with a reasonably-stable history for the past 4bn years is apparently quite rare - the universe is a violent place (The various ICE ages and other earthly catastrophes are just minor fluctuations in cosmic terms). According to this theory, life might be happening all the time on other planets in our galaxy, but the planets never remain stable for long enough for it to develop beyond single-cell organisms, if that. Interesting reading, I recommend it.
Interesting stuff.

Talking of a 'just right' planet. How about some solar radiation management in the form of a tethered solar shield in space to block the sun?

All in the name of addressing the challenges of climate change apparently. Accompanied by a whopping hike in taxes of course, no doubt globally as we all would 'benefit' from a reduction in solar radiation. Funnily enough all i can think of is all the bad things that would happen to life on earth if something like this ever went ahead.

It's probably just as ridiculous to us as the idea that you can see and hear someone a thousand miles away, or go to America in 5 hours, sounded laughable to the Victorians, a mere 150 years ago or so.

That is one way of looking at 'developments' i suppose.

The alternate point of view, with parallels to Frank Herberts brilliant fictional Dune trilogy, dictates that whoever controls the spice (the solar shield) controls the universe (earth).

These days, it's "whoever controls the Internet"...

Somewhat differently to how our police react

I am just wondering.... with all these 4x4 SUVs queuing in front of this make-shift barricade in the middle of the desert... couldn't they just go around it?

I'm impressed by the protestors.
Being anti carbon burning they must have walked to the picket site, on such a hot day, with all that heavy gear.

At least they can look forward to a lift back.

The closest thing we ever had was the TSG in the 80's - they didn't go down to well with the namby pamby faction of British society and were disbanded.
I think the TSG would be surprised to hear they no longer existed!

Soon, you're going to have to take a stance on the ULEZ protesters and their criminal damage (vandalising cameras).

They got it ! Chained up in the back of a pickup truck .

I support them ; they are not impeding the ordinary members of the public going about their day to day business . I am happy to stand by them .

I do not support ULEZ because the numbers of non compliant vehicles is already quite small , and will reduce anyway by natural wastage .

Here in Glasgow , since the introduction of LEZ , only recently , measurements have shown that air quality has actually got worse .

There is , therefore , a case to be made that these punitive schemes are at best unhelpful , and at worst , of marginal efficacy .

My car will be exempt from Glasgow LEZ on August 1st next year , when it becomes 30 years old ; so I can bide my time and not drive into Glasgow until then .

Wile I was crossing Union St this evening , a gentleman drove by in his lovely Arctic White R107 450SL , top down of course ; classic cars are great for the environment : keep a car going as long as you can , and help the planet by not wastefully replacing a perfectly good vehicle .

Oh , before anyone asks : I happened to be in Glasgow city centre because I had to attend a meeting in Aberdeen today , so took the train , and at each end of the journey had to walk between Queen St and Central stations . Much as i like my cars , i also find rail travel quite pleasant , especially when i can claim it back on expenses !

I actually fully support the idea of maintaining the exact same amount of vehicles that are currently on the planet and making anything new and not ground breaking ( Runs on CO2 ) not allowed. Manufacturer's should be forced to make ALL the spares parts for everything they had made - I cannot imagine the damage caused by all of the EV's when they reach the end of their lifecycle.... All that plastic and batteries and lord knows what - But we must keep up with the neighbours and have the latest in car entertainment systems....

I am recycling a 20 year old MB and i am very very pleased to be doing so.

Two of our 8 year old fully EV vans are of to auction next month.... or scrapped .... what a waste

By that metric, jails would be full of farmers and cyclists.
