New ‘C63S Final Edition’ rumours & speculation

I suspect that these Final Edition models are really more about selling existing build capacity rather than a genuinely celebrated swansong to see out these models.

An Evo II style affair would probably been loss making when taking into account the development and type approval costs for something distinctly different.

Those losses are worthwhile when there’s a broader benefit like homologated for racing, but I don’t think the business case would stack up for showroom models.

AMG must push ePerformance as that’s their future, and so celebrating their past “too” much could undermine their marketing and positioning of new models.

I love V8s and will miss them but I’ve sure the Hybrid and electric-only AMG models will be amazing, just a different type of amazing to what we’re used to.
Fair comment. It's all about the e now. I did hear once that there was a properly upgraded final edition planned, but that it got canned due to the pandemic. Must try and get the truth from my man at Mercedes when I see him in person.

I thought the next E63 was still a V8.....just a smaller one with subsidiary electric power (a hybrid). Thought only the C class was going 4 pot.
Sadly, I believe the V8 only lives on in the S and G along with the AMG only models (GT, GT63, SL)

So hopefully, I've got one of these coming, should be confirmed next week. I'm now wondering whether to modify it or not. Options:

- keep it totally stock, might be a rare collectable in the future
- do some subtle mods, Brabus 600 power kit and possibly a few of their exterior carbon pieces
- send it to Bottrop for the powerkit, bodykit, badges and some tasteful interior leather/ alcantara to cover the plastic/ fabric bits as per @Engadine

Thoughts?

Keep it stock.
Almost certainly will become a collectors model and hold its value very well.

I’m a Brabus fanboi but I would say keep it standard. I would usually fully support going full-on Brabus conversion but you could do that to any C 63.

That said if you’re buying it as a c 63 and it just happens to be a final edition - with no specific appeal to you personally - then go for the Brabus conversion.

I think it depends on a few variables and personal preferences.

What is meant by collectable? AMGs and Brabi are generally not cars that appreciate in real value (taking into account inflation, maintenance and running costs) with very few exceptions. Most don't appreciate in actual value. Most people who buy an AMG don't want a piece of history, they want the latest fastest one, of which there will always be another.

If the final edition had been what was internally mooted in MB, a 507-type celebration, then it would have held its value more. I think the final edition will depreciate less than other versions, including probably mine, but that's the best it will do. If it had a performance difference over standard, it would have depreciated less, still.

(That's why I got mine made - did what MB should have and would have done).

So these are depreciating assets.

As you know, you wont get your money back on the Brabusification, even if it is "official MB" and under warranty. Its like a big options list, which includes extra power and a better interior..at big prices!

Will Brabusing it actually reduce its value? I really doubt that. Maybe, if it had been a Black Series or 507 or anything with an actual performance difference.

Should you Brabus it? Cosmetically, I think the FE has a nicer interior than standard, which was one of my reasons for Brabusing my interior. For me, standard is a strange mix of high quality (seats, leather dash, leather on door cards) and segment standard (centre console/tunnel, lower dash, visors, roof lining). Not sure how much of that FE fixes.

Mechanically...I remember hesitating and speaking to my dealer principal. Its already got 500 hp I said, wont it just be a weird wheelspinning monster? I had memories of my old 500SL unable to move much in the wet, and even my W204 C63 didn't love a cold winter's morning. But the way Brabus does that retune...so progressive, so smooth, so powerful but so natural. The car feels made for it. Its the 600 that feels normal and a standard C63S feels like someone has switched something off If you drive one after. And as I have said, the extra power makes the chassis more playful, you can use that e diff to whisk you from the nice sharp turn in to a beautiful haunch squatting exit with less effort and more throttle ballet.

If you were asking a similar question about a 812 GTS I would say to leave it alone. But in this case...especially if you will drive yours a lot, it's very clear cut.

Congrats! The only thing I would be tempted to do (if possible) would be to open up the exhaust for a better sound. As I understand, the post facelift OPF filters have really muted the sound. Does anyone know what the recommendation is? Secondary de-cat but keep the OPF filters in place?

Thanks for all the comments.

I've decided to wait and take delivery before plotting any Brabus or other mods and right now I'm inclined to keep it stock with the possible exception of the Brabus 600 tuning box which will make quite a difference based on my previous experience.

I'd really like a look at a customer car before mine turns up, if anyone spots one in a dealer, please give me a shout.

I can confirm that the sound is more muted. It's not that important to me but still would be happier, louder. However these cars are almost all under warranty. If there's a hack for it to happen without warranty being affected, or without a dealer noticing..I'm first in line.

How does PPF work on a mat finish car?....must be difficult to match the level of ...erm??....mattness! Whereas shiny is just...well, shiny! :)

I believe you have special satin PPF film, it will basically look the same!

I actually thought it was slightly louder than the facelift c63’s. Software update maybe?

Definitely keep it stock, it doesn’t need anything really!

I would be interested to know if there’s a software update to increase the noise. I would be in the market for that. Sound to match the performance. Mine is too quiet.

But not if it’s fake sound piped through the speakers (is that what a software update would do?)

A Stage 1 tune is essential. Brabus 600 keeps the warranty.
