New AMG S63 powered by this!

nice

CL63 here we come. Shame it doesn't have a bit more than 510BHP, but performance figures will be interesting.....

Or C63 AMG, now that would be fun.

Just been reading other press releases and this engine with debut in the ML63 end of the year, followed by the S63 and then the SLK63, CLK63, CL63, E63 and C63.

Seems there is also a new 6.0 V8 4-valve bi-turbo AMG engine coming out in 2007 with over 600bhp, which seems to be a completely different design to the 6.3 engine (different angle, pistons etc etc).

Interesting........

Shame the torque levels on the new engine are LESS that the current 55 engines, however I guess this is what happens when you remove a supercharger from the equation.

U forgot the R63...

Oh and the 72s...

Now let's not get carried away ;).

Just me being curious but from their figures it state is only 6208cc so why call it 6.3 litre??

Displacement: 6208 cc
Bore/stroke: 102.2/94.6 mm
Compression ratio: 11.3 : 1
Output: 375 kW/510 hp at 6800 rpm
Max. torque: 630 Nm at 5200 rpm

Im not picky all the time honest.

Seems a bit pointless really ,the current CL55 has 500 bhp doesn't it ? , so a 10 bhp increase and loss of torque isn't that special , is it ?

Also, CL63 ???? there is already a CL65 with 612bhp (2005) , so why develop another bi-turbo, multivalve engine to produce over 600 bhp and release it in 2007 when they already have one ?

The 72 will have to be really special to eclipse the CL65 power wise .....

Or am i missing something ?

I thinks it's because they already used the 63 for AMG in the past, they had the S63 and CL63 before the bi-turbo engines came out, but only this reason at a guess...

I think the main reason is because MB are moving away from 3-vlave engines to the 4 valve direct injection, plus the new bi-turbo will be a V8 which may seem to be seen as more sporty.

Either way, other than going to Naturally Aspirated, 7 gears and 4 valves there's not much change it seems.

I'm sure the performance will be better, but not sure by how much. I guess it will be down to the 7 speed and weight saving.

And of course the 300SEL 6.3.

A homage to that perhaps?
