Came across a review in AUTOCAR today regarding the new V6 2.5 litre petrol called the C230. Seems more refined (should be for a V6) than the outgoing 4 pot 1.8 litre even if not as fast (0-60 in 8.4s vs 8.1), less torque as well but up 11bhp on horses. Looks like MB cant resist having 6 pots to counter the Beemers...seems a good strategy. I think they should have 6 pots in all future sub 2.5 litre petrol and diesels in the future. Then the playing field with the beemers would be more even! With this, I think even the current C will really give the new 3's a hard time!!

Problems are the age old chestnuts of emissions and fuel consumption, but I agree 6 pots are lovelyl that's why i bought one!

must be a slug ... c230k isnt particuarly quick as it is

Now, now, I don't think you can call any car that will do 0-60 in under 9 seconds a slug. Its funny how peoples perspectives change when they get a faster car!

it wasnt that long ago that the C180 was being described as being reasonably quick :)

to be honest , there isnt much diference in the feeling of performance between the W203 c180 kompressor and the c230 kompressor.

I was very disappointed with the 230k when i had a test drive a month or so back , on paper it should be close to my 270 , but in reality its closer to the 180k. All the salesmen ive talked to don't have a good word to say about it either

have you driven both ? Go to your local dealer for a blast in a 230k and you will see what i mean.

I would take the kompressor over the V6 anyday - OK the V6 engine may sound more refined but the kompressor is quicker and more responsive - was given a C240 saloon loaner and found the car off the mark and in general very sluggish and found the C200K to be more responsive and better to drive. I drove a C230K saloon and it did not seem that bad.

Friend if mine is getting a C320 CDI - can't wait to go for spin in that...

probably more expensive to service. Ol "Jerkin Shrimp" needs to get more of your cash somehow!!

I'll have to defer to your experience on this one, I havent been in one. On paper it should be reasonably quick..... strange.

thats what i thought and i normally give cars the benifit of the doubt when driving them too. but , alas no.

the 180k has the advantage of having a lower torque band than both the 200k and 230k ... maybe thats what makes the diference with the 180k
