New E Class E250 CDI Avantgarde

Well here is my Euro's worth.

I like turbo diesels and currently have two but, for the time being at least, I am done with considering new Turbo diesels as possible replacements. Not an MB thing but overall.

In order to jump through the EU 5a hoops we are pushing the limits of existing diesel technology. Come Septemebr 2011 enter EU5b, followed by the EU6 standard in 2014.

Now it may settle down of course but both Ford and Toyota are also having problems with some of their newer Turbo diesel engines.

So, now considering nothing other than normally aspirated petrol engines. (BTW my son has a 2.0L Focus Mk I estate which after a bit of fettling drives very well!)

E350CDi is about £1500 more .. but you get a proven V6 (no BE injector issues), with broader and better range of torque. Plus the 7G tronic gearbox which is much better than the 5 speed auto in the 250CDi. And also 80 liter fuel tank.

£1500 well spent IMHO.

Drive both back to back and see what you think.

Ok, decision made:

Will buy the 250 CDI if he can swing the other dealer to release it - if not then I shall wait until next year...

Thanks for all the really kind advice.
Cheers,

Steve

ps even you Scummy!!

Modified injectors are being worked on. Why buy before they come? Could be a load of trouble. At the very least get in writing that they will replace ALL injectors with the modified ones when they arrive. If you cannot get that, then I'd choose the 350 or just wait till the clouds roll by.

Just remember all the problems with the seven speed box took over 18 months before they were resolved.

Aye, thats me.......now about that question where 1 = 0 or whatever. I do recall you telling me that did something they weren't meant to do to ensure that it addes up to what it isn't supposed to.

well the man who invented that, now works for MB in the injector department.

which is why, on some occasions they don't do what they are meant to.

life is simple.

Oh, another thing. A rusting, immobilised MB is twice as good as a fully servicable and perfectly adequate FORD. If it wasn't, why would you be looking to change eh? see, simple.

A true MB enthusiast.

Mind you, diesel???

Here you go matey:

Begin: 1=1
Let x = 1
Square both sides: x² = 1
Subtract 1 from both sides: x² - 1 = 0
Factor as diff. of 2 squares: (x + 1)(x - 1)=0
Divide by (x-1) to both sides.
Leaves: x + 1 = 0
Replace x with 1 again.
1 + 1 = 0

(its all about dividing by zero! Thou shalt not!)

Very good.....another one:

What is 1 stack of sand + 1 stack of sand?

= 1 stack of sand.

What is 1 stack of injectors+ 1 stack of injectors?

= 1 stack of disabled MBs'.

Sorry, had to make an adjustment in keeping with no division by 0 and yet actually putting up a formula that does just that and passing it off as correct.

Algebra.

Hehe --- well - I thought long and hard and I got a email saying that they [my local dealer] don't think that the dealer that my ideal config car was allocated to will give it up...

Then 2 hours later -- they have.

Deposit paid and I let him know that my birthday is on the 22nd. He says that he should have it ready by then at least (certainly before Christmas).

Good' o' scrappage with a t reg fiesta (had for donkeys) = £2k saving.

Fingers crossed for injectors now (at least it only came into the country on the 18th December (or will)) so I know it hasn't been sitting in a uk carpark for ages....

Weee!
Hope the media interface will handle my iphone...

Steve

ps Have to attend the GtG's now...

and importantly probably much more refined. 6 cyl over 4 cyl any day.

I picked up my E250CDI in Melbourne Aus 6 weeks ago - Avantgarde with AMG package - I have had an M3, E55, E500 etc. This car is amazing - the power delivery is sensational, and the fuel consumption is a miserly 6.0 litres per 100kms. Great drive, even better value with very low CO2 output - everything I was looking for in a modern sophisticated auto. The only downside is the diesel clatter which is more unrefined than the 350CDI (from the exterior of the car), but in day to day driving, this simply doesn't rate as a significant issue. If it really bothered me, I would have purchased the 350 petrol engine. Have done about 7000Ks with no injector or other quality issues (touch wood). Just my 2 cents....

Cheers - yep - I want a decent economy and low c02 for when they decide to put the tax up again....
Hence the 250 and not the 350 - also, I could hardly hear the engine inside the cabin - don't care what it sounds like outside!
Steve

Dealer just phoned - the car has arrived a day early.

So picking up in the morning tomorrow :bannana:

Let's just hope the injectors don't break down....

Cheers,
S

Got mine a week early - last Wednesday. Since I plan on keeping it a while I got a second set of wheels with winter tyres and swapped them the same day - glad I did now. The car is brilliant IMHO. I'm sure you'll be pleased with it.

Got it this morning and we have now driven down to London for Christmas - really quiet and smooth smooth smooth....
Lovely engine.

Very pleased - long may it continue.

ps Iphone connects and charges too which is nice.
