New E-Class is quiet

My C220 is in for a service and they gave me an '08 E220 with 800 miles on the clock which was nice!

First thing I noticed was how quiet it was compared to mine, is this just because its new or does the E220 have more sound deadening?

Also pulled better but I think from '06 it was more powerful.

Your C220 was assembled in South Africa and a compact Executive. The E-class is a proper Executive car and costs £10K more and assembled in Singelfinger. Maybe they were tempting you to move on a higher class as free promotion without even nagging and dragging you to the showroom to sign on the dotted line.

Maybe and to be honest if I wasn't thinking about an S-Class next I would be really tempted.

I agree :)

There's actually only £5K difference, and at the moment with the C being new and the E being old, the transaction prices are probably pretty close.

It's always amazed me how close BMW models are on price - there's only £1K difference betwen 320dSE & 520dSE. There was a period in the past where, for matching specifications, 5 series was actually cheaper than 3.

It would be nice if they were that clever - yet it's such an obvious thing to do. At my C270CDi's 3yr service I asked to try a E Class for the day - "no problem" they said. I surely must be a good prospect - 3yr old car etc etc. I'd cleared some time to try it out.

When I got there they walked me to an A Class and when I asked about the E they shrugged.

I bought a C220Cdi estate after selling my E270Cdi Saloon. I couldn't get used to how noisy and un-refined it seemed when comparing it to my E270.
I sold the C220Cdi after a couple of months and bought an E320Cdi Estate instead.

The E320cdi is actually quieter than my E270Cdi.

We also have a 55plate E280Cdi saloon (new 3ltr engine and 7G but still on the old shape). I always figured the low noise on these newer cars was due to the better engines because this E280Cdi is the quietest of the bunch by a long stretch.

Did the facelift model improve on the sound deadening even further??? .....got me curious now.
