Hi all, ive got a new E250cdi AG auto arriving this week, and wondered if anyone had one, and if they are happy with it, any foibles etc, Im coming from an E280cdi Sport....will i miss the v6 smoothness?. Also im trying to sell my Sport ( its in the for sale section ) and im getting stupid offers from ebay and autotrader...wondered what you guys think its worth,,,85000, lovely condition, full history. ive owned it 3 years. Thanks:D

Nice :-)

I've had mine just about 6 months and have been very happy, although I came from an E220 CDi estate rather than the E280. No foibles or things to report, other than my lights seem to be little high - I get the occasional flash which I've not had before but it can wait another 2-3 months when the first service comes up.

Hi - I've been driving an E220CDI for about a month now. It's done 7k miles on it (although I've only done about 1k myself) and is a 12-plate Sport 125 Ed. I love the car and no foibles yet - the start/stop takes a bit of getting used to but other than that am enjoying the drive. I tend to do motorway miles and the one issue I am finding is that I am struggling to get anything above 40mpg - and that takes a while to reach. One of the reasons I bought the car was for its improved mpg over the C-Class I had before (this one advertised at 55mpg combined I think) and not sure whether it's just not loosened up yet (although I would think after 7k miles it should be) or what might be up with it. That's the only thing I would warn about. If anyone has any suggestions as to why I am struggling with the mpg figures (don't really tend to hammer it either) it would be a help. I'm also not sure whether this is a foible of the E-class for you to be aware of with your purchase but thought I'd mention it as you seem to do a lot of miles and might be buying with the same fuel economy mindset I did!

Putting a smaller engine in a car doesn't necessarily mean that it will use less fuel. A particular size and weight of car requires a certain amount of power to propel it at a certain speed and this power has to come from the fuel, no matter what size engine. Modern engines can be made smaller and more efficient, but you can't defy the laws of physics! My philosophy is to go for a larger engine and just enjoy it! :)

^ too late for me! But I am comparing to the figures quoted by MB at 55mpg. While I accept that is unrealistic, I would at least expect 45-48mpg as opposed to 33-35 which I seem to be averaging (and only hit 40 at a real push)!

You have purchased your car at the worst time of year to show reasonable mpg figures. I have an E250cdi coupe and that has no trouble getting the late 40's and early 50's; indeed it has average a true 48mpg over 10000miles. However at this time of year mine is struggling to get 47-48mpg on a run and running around locally 42mpg!! My new car did improve as it loosened up but not by much. Hope this helps you.

Thanks to you all for replying... ive just been out in the new car, and it seems more solid than the 211, its a lovely drive.....but my 211 is still a cracking drive. And to be honest mpg seem to be about the same at the moment, i'll know more when on the motorway next week.

I get somewhere between 44 and 45 mpg on my usual driving - mostly back lanes and country A roads. Long motorway runs see high 50's quite easily. We do the first long run down to the south of France later this month and I'm expecting to nudge 60mpg. The ECO graph on the cluster helps too - it looks a bit gimicky but if you're looking to maximise economy it's worth paying a little bit of attention to - I've trained Mrs E to check it and tweak her driving style and she sees an extra 10 mpg on her commute when she drives my car (in fact it does better than her 1.2 Punto).

My E220 estate used to do about 37-39 on the same mix of roads. I guess the "greener" tweaking and slightly less mass of the saloon help a bit.

Also, as other say, the consumption will rise a bit during the colder winter months.

I hope you enjoy it. Our 2011 250 CDI estate replaced a w211 estate, though an inline 6 not a v6. My comments:
- feels bigger in the back, otherwise similar size
- the 250 is pretty nippy. I think with the 7G performance figures are similar to the 280's
- it gets about 44 mpg, which is better than the 320 by far. But it has a smaller fuel tank. Stupid.
- More road noise than w211 which admittedly had smaller Elegance tyres.

Mrs Ash's verdict is that the car is more modern, better engineered but somehow not as nice. I think she means less character.

what's your view? Is the 7G+ better?
Ash

Ash, your wife said virtually the same as mine, she prefers the look of the 211, especially the headlights, lol. And the curvy dash....the new one looks too German. I dont know if ive got 7g or 7g+ box, its got paddles, but the button on the centre console has E and S. Gearstick is on the column,
