Nice !

A bit concerned that a 150 mile drive did not 'sort' the battery out . keep an eye on that. As you already know modern MB's like a healthy battery.

Go drive it some more , use the low battery as an excuse to go for a 'joy ride' ;)
That's the plan!

The car looks great, I knew you wouldn't be disappointed.

I had battery issues too, and still can two years later if the car isn't used for a couple of weeks or goes to the dealership for work (I guess they leave doors open?). Search this forum for CTEK and I'm sure you'll find plenty of info.

Enjoy the car, here's to finding enough Shell V-Power 😀

Epic. Whoever said that in a year's time you won't have regretted missing out on the E53 had a really good point.

Wow. What a car. I drove her home yesterday (c.150 miles back to London). Some lovely A and B roads to start with and then the A1, followed by London. I managed 25 mpg without being too much of a hooligan, which was much better than I was expecting. The ride was also much better than many reviews suggest. It's a bit fidgety over bumpy roads at speed but I like the feedback from the chassis, and it's not uncomfortable at all. The engine is absolutely pornographic. I passed one car without even thinking about it - it practically teleports you further up the road. Only issue is the battery which is still showing low voltage (presumably as a result of having been sat in the dealership for a while, although I thought the long drive back would have fixed that). Easily sorted though.

Thank you to everyone on this thread who contributed - you helped me immensely in making the (right!) choice.

Super awesome car ... and I can say that by experience as I got the 2020 one last year

Metallic black works brilliantly with Satin PPF btw:

Makes the lines just really sharp.

And given it is an estate - you can fit TONS - it is amazing really ... I got a 'Fat Bike' and I can get my bike (26") and my son's (18") in at the same time :)

Not bad for a 2 tonne car that goes from 0-60 in 3.1 ... And I managed 3.1 on the A142 that is far from perfect :)

@OP get yourself a decent charger as suggested and give the battery a proper charge.

Modern chargers can detect what state the battery is in and adjust what they do to make the best of the situation.

Then see how it goes.

100% - just make sure the charger supports AGM mode as those are the batteries that are required for Stop / Start (which you got) - I have the CTEK Multi MXS 10 and it works brilliantly for that puppy.

Glad the OP is happy. You've ended up with the car you'd have wish you got 6 months into owning the e53. Enjoy, you're gonna have a lot of fun. I love mine (all be it an s212)

I'm not surprised at all that it didn't fully charge. They really need connecting to a charger.
For example, my wife's A220 was driven from Belfast to Dublin Airport (approx 115 miles), left for a week, then driven home again.
Stop start never worked once, about 12 hours on the ctek and stop start was working within 300 yards of leaving the driveway

Congratulations, health to enjoy.
They are fabulous cars

Congrats on your purchase! Like you I set out for an E53, which I considered the 'thinking man's AMG', but ended up with an E63 (albeit the non S version). 7 months now and, as I don't do big mileage, I persistently get the low battery warning though it doesn't appear to affect anything. Having researched and found that it's not uncommon I now just ignore it. Batteries are relatively inexpensive, so may just fit a new one at some point.

Don't replace the battery, get yourself a CTEK charger on amazon, the MXS5.0 was on a great offer not too long ago

Update: I cancelled the E53 and have opted for the E63S.... Hopefully collecting it on Friday, if I can find some diesel for my Audi before then as it's a 150 trip to the dealer!

Mercedes said the E53 had gone into production at long last on Monday, and then when I spoke to them on Tuesday they said, sorry, actually it hadn't, but the good news was the 'Export HOLD' notice on the order which had appeared on Monday had been removed. Delivery date had slipped to November and they still weren't certain what items would be included / excluded (there were discrepancies between the Oasis printout and the 'Change of specification' notice), so I finally decided enough was enough and took the plunge with the E63S.

Next order of business is to order a boot protector to try to make it hound-proof, and some rear set protectors to do the same for the nippers.... If anyone has any recommendations on either front, I'm all ears! I plan to get a PPF applied too, and possibly have it detailed.
Is that an S213 model if so as a doggy owning family man, you may be interested in my gloss black Thule roof box with matching aero bars and feet to fit a S213 model. I've only used it twice and its been hung up in the garage since my S213 went earlier in the year. Just give me a shout if you are interested. I'm open to offers.

Thanks. I do already have a similar NOCO charger.

A battery doesn't last for ever (mine's coming up to 3 years), so happy to just go with a new one though as I say - not rushing to do this. A search on other forums seems to show the low battery warning as a common issue with little or no adverse effect. Also - my own take is, I just expect to press the start button and go just as with other cars!

I've sold my X5 for a good price and was really excited about ordering an E53 estate. I haven't contacted a dealer yet but I have been looking at carwow and the MB website. It's very confusing! Has the e53 estate been discontinued as that is what Carwow is saying and I can't configure an e53 on the MB website?

I had the same issue - Carwow weirdly won't let you spec some models. I think the best bet is to spec a E-Class and then wait for a dealer to contact you, then tell them you're actually after an E53.

Just in case anyone else stumbles on this. I was just told 6-9months for delivery and options are missing. EG. no head up display which I would really like!

At least they gave you the heads up. Drum roll please.
