My exhaust has started blowing and there's nice big hole on the rear pipe leading into the backbox.

Anyhow - popped into Kwik Fit in Camberley (A30) this afternoon at 4:00pm, and 2.5 hours laters - a nice new exhaust fitted - the backbox and mid-piece.

They had major grief getting the old one off and even more grief getting the new one on. The boss even ended up driving off to Camberley Auto Factors to get an extra piece to help fit it. They had 4 people working on it at one stage. And had to remove the towbar too.

Anyhow - £212, 2.5 hours and 2 coffees later my initial impression was how much better the engine seemed to be running - a much more consistent idle - plus I can't believe how quiet it was - compared to how it was before - I had to check once or twice that the engine was actually running !

Serves me right I suppose for having RATM set to 11 on the CD player !

How long are you intending to keep the car for?

You can bet that as soon as the 2 year warranty is up it'll fall to bits. Still not too bad for the money though.

Cheers

I reckon I'll either shift it right now* or in 23 months time - knowing full well that as you say - once the 2 years are up it'll need replacing again !

If your going to keep the car, then why not consider s/steel, not that much more really. Im def doing it on mine next time it comes around...

From experience when you fix one part of the exhaust the part next to it then develops a problem! You end up chasing the problem from one end of the car to the other! Sometimes it's better to replace as much of it as you can at the same time to save on some repeat labour etc ;) .
