New forth road bridge

I think the bridge (new Queensferry Crossing) looks cracking and when you drive along any of the roads nearby its awesome to look at.

Then again when I recall the stories of mates who are working on it (= sleep on nightshift, must have 4g & large tablet to watch movies) I fully understand why it's cost so much.

cracking bridge

yes its a cracking bridge but you cant walk accross it , they didnt put a path on it , i once walked across the forth road bridge ,it was a nice sunny day but bye the time i got to the middle theres a fair breeze ie wind chill factor 2/3rd over i was freezing so wrap up , then you have to cross under and come back other side ,NEVER AGAIN. baltic seems a good idea at the time but only once in a life time .

Apparently it'll be open to traffic tomorrow then closed again. The day after 50,000 winning ticket holders will walk across it. That'd be great to be involved in.

Well,
Today a little after 6.00 am, I joined a huge queue backing up the M90 to get over the newly opened Queensferry Bridge across the Forth. This was not just commuter traffic, it seemed that there was a huge amount of sightseers wanting a ride over the bridge. Also on the radio, it said a vehicle had broken down on the bridge causing delays. When I crossed over there was a van parked up on the hard shoulder. He will go down in history as the first break down on the bridge.
The new piece of road merged seamlessly onto the bridge, whosoever designed that, had made a really good job of it.
Driving across the bridge was super smooth, no more of the ka-chung, ka-chung, ka-chung ( 100 of ) that you felt on the old Forth bridge. The views from the bridge were great, and if felt strange looking down onto the old bridges. The exit off of the bridge was again seamless onto the A90. When the speed limit is 70 you will be on and off it in no time. Seems a very successfull albeit expensive, project. I did take some photos crossing, but have not even looked at them yet.
I wonder who will be the first to jump off of it ??? its a long way down.

Steve

Cross the QE2 bridge, it costs. Cross the Severn Bridge, it costs. Etc. Etc - yet cross the Firth of Forth and it's free - yet another English subsidy of the Scots??

No crossing in Scotland has a charge for use whether it be Bridge or tunnel. It's a policy of the Scottish government. Maybe you should be lobbying your policy makers to remedy the situation in the rest of the UK instead of complaining.

But let's not let politics get in the road of a happy thread.

When I was a teenager I once walked it 10 times from one end to the other for charity. My legs hurt after.

Baltic, real baltic, is going to the beach at Aberdour in the Fife "summer". Watery sunlight, arctic water and a ferocious wind chill.

(and let's not mention the 70's sewage pipe outlet about 50 yards out.....)

"Baltic, real baltic, is going to the beach at Aberdour in the Fife "summer". Watery sunlight, arctic water and a ferocious wind chill."

When I am in Leven, which is just up the coast from Aberdour, every morning I take the dog down to the "Esplanade ", so he can drag me up and down there, and at about 7-30 ish there is a man that strips down to his bathers, walks the walk out to the sea and goes for a swim.
He comes back from the sea bright pink, glowing, and often if I am passing by, ask him how the water is. He does this every day, come rain or shine, mostly rain, and mostly windy. What a hero he is, the sea is so very cold.
Boxing day there is a gathering of people who dress up and jump into the sea for charity. Oh to be young again !!

Talk about cold swimming and the bridges see here:

The view from Blackness looking east through the three bridges is fabulous.

I went across the new bridge about two weeks ago on my motorbike I'll be going back over it again on sunday.
I was to busy filtering to look at the bridge or views, it's a means to get me home quicker so it's all good :D

At the moment it's plagued by traffic-jams, mainly southbound, which they're blaming on the 40mph speed limit but seems more likely attributable to poor design of feeder slips on the north side of the bridge. The 40mph is to be raised to the NSL then we'll see if things improve.

Funnily enough we drove through the other day and Northbound was fine but Southbound was very congested. I wonder if it will sort itself out?
