Car
Mercedes ML270
Hello guys was wondering if you could help me in here i recently bought a ML270 52 plate love the car but a total newbie to it, was wondering why not all of my dashboard lights come on when i turn the key before turning over the lights that would not come on are: SRS/CHECK ENGINE/ABS/ETSBAS/ESP reason i noticed is because my mate has one and just realise that the lights i wrote above do not come on is this normal?? please help

Hope I'm wrong, but it could be that someone has doctored it to hide faults. Remember seeing a similar post on here where black insulation tape had been stuck over the apertures for various warning lights.

Suggest you get it checked out properly at a good MB indie with STAR diagnostic.
MOT failure if they're not all working.

Am I right in thinking that you're saying the lights don't come on at all? I'm sure they should all illuminate and extinguish when the various self checks have been done.

On the second click is when all the lights should come on but they don't at all once i turn her over everything that came on will go off, i was thinking of that but when i bought the car i can tell that the guy i bought it off did not know nothing about it but yet kept up to date with all the services of he's 9 years of ownership, should ask a garage to check if all of the bulbs are in or could i check that my self

Just checked mine, and nothing is illuminated at position 1, but at position 2, all are lit.
Starting the car extinguishes them all except seat belt light which goes when buckling up.

As GVM, something not right if yours don't light up at all.

I viewed a CLK at a dealer, which on closer inspection had black tape over the SRS light.

There are I believe also some differences between early/late models in which dash lights operate, so you have to compare with one same age as you have.

I've checked my mates one he has the same one as me and the lights that won't pop up on position 2 are the ones i named above, also made a close inspection to check for tape but don't see nothing do you think if i take it to a garage will they charge me just to check??

If you're happy with checking it yourself for blown bulbs or if it has been doctored, here is a short video of what's involved.

Thanks for your help guys =D will check tomorrow fingers crossed that nothing is been doctored

Good luck. Hope I'm wrong.

There is normally a charge for STAR diagnostic. (STAR being the Mercedes specific machine). Anything between £40 - £100 depending on the garage. Main dealers charge the upper end prices, hence my comment about a good Mercedes Independent. If you post your location someone may be able to recommend one in your area. STAR will also reveal any faults which may be logged.
