e220cdi estate
Hi All - a newbie with newbie questions :-) e

I just took delivery of our new 2010 E class 220 cdi estate (w212) and i have 3 questions

reversing mirror dip - looking through the menu on the dash, there is no menu option to select dipping revering wing mirror - any ideas ?

towing + trailer stability - the handbook suggests that cars with ESP also have trailer stability - the dealer thinks that it is only included if you had the towbar fitted by Mercedes as a factory fit option, but he does have a part number for the electrical part needed (a2129060805). A Mercedes towbar is almost £3k fitted and aftermarket ones are £700. Can anyone shed any light on whether 3rd party fitments can also activate the trailer assist? are there any "gotyas" that i need to be aware of, I dont tow huge distances and dont think i need a bigger fan fitted, but would be interested to hear the forum's opinion.

the dealer was suggesting that certain models couldnt tow at all because of the wheel size (mine has an AMG kit and 18" wheels) - any thoughts

apologies if I have posted this in the wrong section, looking forward to any thoughts

mirror dip on reverse, make sure the selector switch is set for the passenger mirror

I believe you have a couple of options for the towbar - one is a bypass relay kit which effectively turns off the rear parking sensors and fog light (with the caravan attached) but that won't help with the ABS/ESP adaptions that would take place if you used the full mercedes kit.

I believe the anti-snaking system is connected to the rear SAM and then has to be coded, it automatically activates when it senses a current draw through the rear (trailer) connector, it brakes wheels dependant upon relative speed thereby lessening the chances of snaking... It also stops the bulb warning light cct from having a hissy fit (Canbus is a bit sensitive like that).

I also believe you can buy the kit and fit it in conjunction with most aftermarket towbars (not just the Mercedes one) but someone will need to code the SAM for you..

Hi and thanks - tried that and - nothing (re the dipping mirror)

Mirror dipping when reverse is selected is only available if you have memory seats.
