S211 E220 CDi
Hi all. I am mulling over the idea of selling my Merc
on the basis that it simply isn’t getting the use it was built for. Since the pandemic, like many of you I am sure, my work mileage has dropped off the proverbial cliff. Consequently I am not convinced I need such a big car to do predominantly local mileage.

The car in question is my E220 cdi, a 2008 211 estate, avantgarde spec in metallic charcoal. It‘s somewhat rare in that it has just under 60k on the clock, having been owned for 12 of its 14 years by a lady who did very little mileage. I bought it 18 months or so ago.

I don‘t know what demand would be like for an E of that age and mileage. It has been serviced on the button every year, and the condition is excellent, but it is an older car now.

There does seem to be a market for the 211, especially the estate, but of course most will be at the 120-140k miles stage by now.

Any thoughts would be welcomed in terms of what the market is like currently for such a car?

thanks.

Going against is the fact that it is euro 4 and so will not meet the standards for the growing emissions zones; in its favour is the low mileage, the service history and the general robustness of the 211. On balance a good market for it, in fact I know someone who is looking for a 211 estate in good order right now so he would be interested I am sure.

Thanks for the reply, I’ll mull it over. There are a few 220cdi saloons on auto trader with similar mileage at the 6.5k mark, although whether they are selling for that is another matter! 😀

I am also considering selling my S211 E350 Avantgarde, Japanese import, 67,000 miles, will have a years MOT, AMG Styling III wheels, Good Year Eagle F1 tyres, new Bilstein B4 shocks fitted, Eibach springs in the front, heated leather, sunroof, new transmission control unit fitted by Mercedes, gearbox serviced at the same time, SBC control module replaced my Mercedes, self levelling compressor serviced, new filter and genuine Mercedes hoses fitted at the same time. All original Japanese service history and auction sheet with it too!

Arnold Clark are currently offering £500 on top of ‘market value’ to buy your car. I’ve just done it with a BMW and was very happy with what I got. Do the initial valuation online to see if it’s in the ballpark you are considering.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve been thinking it over and I have come to the conclusion that a) I probably won’t get back that much for a 14 year old car and b) it is such a lovely old thing, probably the last of the proper mercs, that I would regret it if I sold it. It has elements to its exterior and interior design that still evoke to me a bit of the old 124 model, and so the way forward for me is to run it til it either expires or is legislated off the road!

I have come to the same conclusion as you - run one until it expires or is legislated off the road. I would rather do that and pay the daily "fines" to drive into a clean air zone than muck about with nox sensors and adblue systems. The difference is that I need to find the s211 to do it with.

Totally agree with both of you! With things heading in the direction they are i say enjoy them whilst you can... I am:)
