Hi everybody!

I am new to the board so wanted to say a quick hello :bannana:

Ive recently been scouring ebay looking for a good deal on a 2nd hand E Class - I found your forum as a result! Thought I better sign up as hopefuly you guys can help steer me in the right direction (to say I am a novice at 2nd hand car buying would be an understatement)!

If you are a total novice then.

A. get help. There are consultants who will inspect a car I believe

b. stick to a Merc dealer

Enjoy rummaging through the threads on what ever year of E Class you are after.

Especailly watch out for gearbox and coolant issues if you are after what we call a 210 with an automatic box.. The 210 is the first of the none "boxy" shapes - around 1995 onwards.

The real experts will be along to keep you on the right path when you make your choice. Do please ask before you part with any readies.

Starting with budget (as I cannot shift on this)...5 grand is my maximum

In terms of model...I love the 220 convertible...age...as new as possible!!

There are 11 W124 E220 convertibles on Autotrader at the moment, starting, handily placed for you, in Loughborough, at £5995. It looks a bit of a minger in red though.

I am aware of a very famous green one that is quite often for sale (do a search on here) but you might have to stretch your budget a little
