Hi All moved over from my Slug P38 Vogue to a slick c220cdi w203 in black.. Now Im looking to add some mods and prepare for the winter weather as i do alot of commuting and spend alot of time behind he wheel..

Anybody got any good tips on:
Upgrading Cdplayer to DVD unit?
Which 17's will fit perfect on the car? and weather I should leave the original 16's to see me through the winter?
Also not really fan of RWD as i've already written of a skyline R33 so any good tips will be most appreciated..

Hi Ozzy
Welcome to the forum

Cheers Buddy!!
Now that ive switch over to the MB not too sure if it was such a great idea with all the snow on its way.. Im contemplating between Snowchains or Snow socks as I drive 300+ miles a week..

hey Ozzy, welcome to the club :)

if you whant some alloys I would go with 17'' BBS RX or Integralos from VW...but for the winter I would stay with 16''

I'm looking forward for the winter because it's gonna be my first one with RWD (on summer tyres :D )

Nice one mate.. I did actually foolishly tried to put on some SL500 18's on it but as soon as i took em to the garage they were a definate no no!! lol

Ive had RWD 4yrs back R33 skyline lost the backend in the wet on a dual carriageway got messy so was put off em but hopefully the Merc should hold up bit better!!

yeah I love Skylines..I'm looking forward to get one in the future :) or some 4motion at least :D

Hi welcome to the forum Ozzy :thumb:

Hi JohhnyMerc.. Thanks mate.. Looking forward to the MB way of life..

So whats best way to handle the car in the snow??

Sharonnnnn!!!!
Sorry, couldn't resist :p:rolleyes:

Leave it in the garage!

TBH, rear-wheel drive and fat tyres are about the worst combination for snow. If you need to drive it in snow then maybe keep the fuel tank full and put some (safe) heavy-ish items in the boot to aid traction!

If you're 'oop North' then maybe contemplate winter tyres? (plenty of recent threads on here about them)

Welcome to the forum btw! :D

I think i should've joined the forum before i bought my MB, seems like theres some good deals around!! Hi Sharonnn.. lol

Looking to upgrade my CD unit with a command but not really interested in the Nav more for the DVD player any good suggestions and extimated prices I should look for?

Nah Ive still got the original 16's on, and was considering bigger rims but maybe put that on hold till the spring!

Oh and Im on the south coast town of Hastings but commute to London so driving is pretty much essential :( might just have to raid my local gym for some of the 20kg plates about 5-6 should do it?? what sort of weight load are we looking at for some realistic added assistance as ive read plenty of places full tank and weight in the boot, But won't the added weight increase the fuel consumption?

My last merc was simply awful in the snow! Never again when I get another will I be taking it out if the roads are covered in the fluffy white stuff!

Auto box + RWD is just not a good snow combo! haha

Also, hi and welcome :)

hey Ozzy,

what's the best way to hande RWD on a snow? Slowly and carefully mate :D no other way. I come from Slovakia and I was on the phone with my mate and he said that they allready have snow :D sh*t loads of snow :D he just bought ''Nokian Hakkapeliitta'' winter tyres on his Tuareg...but thing is they are expencive and really noisy on dry road

Winter tyres are the way forward in my view. We've had four inches of snow here last few days and I'm having no problems getting around. 18" rims and 245 tyres as well (Conti winter contacts).
I don't have any weight in the boot but am considering putting a few paving slabs in there to help further

Welcome to the forum by the way

Cheers Tagnut, I'm going to lookinto Winter tyres as opposed to chains or snow socks as they are approx £40quid a pop and the tyres i guess will be a long term investment!! any good makes to look out for or just the usual brands?

Bridgestone Blizzak or Michellin Pilot Alpin...any way if you go for bridgestone or michellin you'll be ok :)

As per previous post my preference is Conti but lots of makes popular with members on here if you do a search.

Regarding the investment, some people prefer to buy a second set of wheels and just switch over themselves in November and April. Others just change out the tyres at a fitters twice a year. Either way wear rates will be better on winter tyres in the winter and summer tyres in the summer. Winter tyres will also probably be cheaper (if bought early enough) so over the longer term should be low or zero cost.

Hope this helps
