C32 AMG 2002
Hi.
I am a new MB owner and new member to this forum also so apologies if the question is a time-waster.

I have just got my 2002 C32 AMG with Command without the telephone in the armrest. I also have a Blackberry Pearl and was trying to find out the options (if any) for linking the 2 together and being able to drive and talk (without infuriating Mr Policeman and other more studious road users).....

Is there a Bluetooth option to link that can be fitted? Can Command be linked to a Parrot Bluetooth kit or does anybody have any other useful suggestions?

Cheers

If your Blackberry supports SAP via bluetooth then there is a chance it will work with comand, check the spec of the handset first :)

Alas, Blackberry do not have that functionality (I get this nuggett from another forum) so any alternatives?

Comand will ahve the same telephone mute on the ISO plug like any other head unit. What you won't be able to do is browse the phonebook. You will be able to must the audio tho.

Thanks Fuzzer. I am however none the wiser. Being non-technical is there a dumbed down version of that?
Cheers

What happens with my installation (comand retrofit, Nokia bluetooth kit and SonyEricsson K750i) is that the Nokia kit puts a signal on a wire when the phone is in use. This signal is fed to the comand (or radio with phone mute input), which uses it to mute the radio or CD. What it can't do without a phone-specific Mercedes cradle is display the phonebook on the comand screen or use the comand number keys to make a call. Comand doesn't 'speak' bluetooth.

The phone-specific cradles are just that. They are wired into the centre armrest and you connect your phone to it. The comand can then read and display your phonebook and you can use the comand as a remote panel for your phone.

I think!

Intergrated Bluetooth For Older MB Non UHI

New Bluetooth for Interface Module For Fixed Nokia Cradle

Replaces Nokia 6150, Nokia 6210, Nokia 6310, Nokia 6310i

If you have a Mercedes-Benz which has the factory fitted Nokia cell phone cradle or the UHI cradle system, you can now easily connect this new MBU-BT Bluetooth module into the Nokia or UHI cradle and use virtually any Bluetooth enable phone directly via the car's factory fitted hands-free phone system. Previously you either had to use the original Nokia phones which are now quite old and hard to obtain or not use it at all. With this system, you can use your current and future Bluetooth enable phones with ease. Multiple phones can be paired to the system and even the phonebook is synchronised for most phones. Steering wheel controls and / or the radio head unit can be used to make or receive calls and for cars with the Comand navigation system, the details of the calls can be viewed onscreen.

Blackberry Options

Summary:
If you do have a mercedes UHI phone kit pre-installed with command then the HFP adapter (£250) is the way to go.

If not then fit a Parrot (3200 for preference but check you can get the cables to work with the Steering wheel controls - there seem to be more accessories available for the older models)

The Parrot kit is very effective, Cheaper, incredibly versatile, and works well, but is slightly less elegant than a fully integrated kit.
