Hello,

I was wondering if someone could give me some advice. I've recently spent a lot of time and money buying, refurbing and wrapping a new set of alloys and when I went to put them on my motor they were hitting the front struts.

I wondered if anyone would be able to tell me if they could be made to fit my car using spacers etc or are they simply just not the correct size.

They are 20” Innovit, 8.5 wide, et35 offset with tyres 255/35/20.

My car is a 2013 E350 Coupe W207 Model.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Kevin.

Yeah I'm gutted. they came with 2 good tyres in this size so I thought the profile looked ok by eye. Bought two more and now cant get them on.

So these tyres are unusable for my car? Or might they fit on the rear and if I got 235/30/20 for the front?

Cheers.

They might physically fit, but they're still far too large and the different in size is likely to upset the electronic systems.

235/30 is the correct size all round. Don't put bigger on the back since your wheels are all the same size.

The aspect ratio is a percentage of the width, so as a tyre gets wider the aspect ratio number must get smaller if you are to achieve the same diameter. But...this will not affect you since you must put the same size tyre front and rear.

Mercedes themselves have been doing that for years. CLKs came with 225/45 and 245/40 on 8Jx17s, for example. On the OPs own car, the 19" AMG setup from the factory is 8.5Jx19 all round, with 235/35 & 255/30 tyres.

255 is the widest allowed (but 235 or 245 is the recommended width) on a 8.5J rim, but if you need to go smaller for the front, the profile needs to go up and not down from 35 to 30.

Damn, I realised my error once I went to fit them and could see they were too big but wondered if I could somehow make them fit lol. But its sounding like I have to go back to the drawing board :(

Also my originals are different for the front and back but they are 18s.

225/40x20 is almost exactly the same rolling circumference as 255/35x20 if that helps you.

Spacers will help clear the front struts, but they will also alter the suspension's geometry.

And you may find that the tyres now rub against the wheel arches.

Best solution is to get the right-sized tyres as per the posts above.

But, the tyre diameter is 1.5 inches higher than the spec tyre.

Not sure what you mean?
The correct spec is 235/30 20, the height/width of the tyre (diameter) is about 25.5 inches. A 225/40 20 is about 27 inches high/wide.
I would not be surprised if it fouled bodywork or suspension even with spacers.

Get you now, I was suggesting 225/40 because it matches what he already has, which is 255/35, he really needs to start again from the beginning!
