Well it turned out that I met up with Simon and we saw the car together.
Mediocre was the term that springs to mind.
The car was very genuine and seemed to have reasonable although not complete history. The interior was spotless but in the older (slightly sickly) shade of mushroom/creme, the paintwork was all original apart from the number plate surround which had been professionally repaired at some point but the whole car had been ruthlessly splodged with the touchup pen everywhere. All the tyres were due for a change and the aircon blew warm air. The motor sounded fine and apart from a harsh kick down, the gearbox performed as expected.
At £5200, I think the car was probably £1500 overpriced - still, definitely worth Simon seeing it, if only to act as a marker for other cars on the list.
There's plenty more out there so I think one can be quite choosy.
