Well I've gone and bought an upgrade to the wifes car, a 3yr old ML500. ;) with abot 37000 miles.

I've had a go in it and very pleased, I'm also pleased with the purchase price of around £22K after taking into account everything like part ex etc.

It seems pretty well loaded up but as usual I've a few questions which I could do with some help on...

It has an iPod lead but what is the best way to hook up an iPhone 3GS for calls? via bluetooth or hard wire? It does come with telephone pre-wire...does this mean I have to get a bluetooth puk?

Whats the latest navigation CD/DVD as I have asked for the newest one to be supplied (just so I know It is the correct one when I collect the car ;) )

Any one know how I find out the original retail cost of this car with its options? not necessarily the sales price. I think it would have been around £55k to £60k??? Thats about £35k drop.

I have done a check on the Russian VIN site and come up with a few unknown option codes and anomalies, I'm sure it has xenon lights yet the details on the VIN check say otherwise and one worrying detail is that the car has a 56 reg number plate yet according to the list below was delivered in October 05!! How accurate is this VIN check?

Here is the full list....

Many Thanks
Mark....

dont suppose a ML500 was ever going to be easy to sell so it may have sat around for a year after it was built; probably sold at a huge discount as an "ex demo" in the end. May be worth contacting the original keeper if it is a one owner car.

Sounds nice,

As mentioned a ML500 is not on anyones wish list really so always going to lose a lot. I would be tempted with one myself as fuel isn't an issue and prices for the new shapes are dropping.

Sensible head it will do nothing more than mine will really so no point in swapping....just to have a newer shape, although I'm always looking :)

I think thats a very serious overreaction to a little bit of snow!

Now lets see the pics - I'm not jealous honestly :)

Download the ML price list pdf from MB website. It lists the option codes and will let you work out the cost it would be new.

On the positive side - what a car :)

£22k for a 3-year old ML is pretty good? The 5.0 engine will put many people off - hence the depreciation from new (phew!), but a great proposition now it's lost most of it's cash.

If you're only doing low annual mileage, large petrol engines are sometimes not as silly as they seem.

Well I did do the online configurator and it tops out at a whopping £60300....

Hehe...actually we're trading in a Jeep Grand Cherokee which does seem to work rather well in the current weather conditions.

How old is the Jeep your getting rid of? I'm in need of a towcar!

Sadly it shows how unreliable that VIN site is. If you PM me the chassis number i'll get you the correct datacard for it. the delivery date is the date it came off the production line. Its not uncommon to see a big gap between this date and the date of actual registration. just means the car has been sitting around unused.

Code 386 is UHI phone pre-wire and 527 is DVD comand.
Latest navigation disk is V11 for that car.

For the phone/ipod you have a choice. You can go with a bluetooth cradle like the HFP or an iphone cradle which you can then fairly easily interface to the existing ipod kit. This gives you phone and ipod in the one device all controllable fromm the steering wheel/instrument cluster.

Thanks mate. Iphone cradle sounds good. PM sent

Looking at the genuine datacard and comparing it to the data from the Russian site, there really are a lot of mistakes and errors in it. Even the delivery date is wrong!

I'll leave it for mw_c32 to post the full card if he wishes.

Very nice specced car!

952 rotating emergency flasher, front (red light)

That sounds interesting - what is that? Ex-emergency services vehicle?

I've now got the ML and I'm very very happy with it. :thumb:

Now looking for some mods to do....:D

1st up will probably be changing the ipod cable to one that charges my 3gs, so I''ll get that from comand online. (Can someone tell me how long it is? as I will want to route it to where the ashtray is)

2nd will more than likely be an addition of running boards, i've found a set of them but anyone knows of a forum friendly supply and give me a heads up as they are quite expensive. The cheapest I've found is around £700.:(

3rd might try and get linguatronic fitted, not sure though if its worth it, maybe Alfie could give me a price!!!;)

4th Anyone know if the roof bars off the R-Class will fit the ML?

I'll post up some pics shortly if anyone shouts....:D

Mark.
