Most are familiar names but NFU mutual is new to me? :dk: Anyone used them to insure their Mercedes?

Never insured with them but I've only ever heard good things about NFU.

I always thought you had to be a farmer to join them, maybe wrong.

My parents have used them for many years for both motor insurance and home insurance. They have a small holding with out-buildings etc so NFU fully understand this and offer competitive insurance. He's made a few claims over the years and rates them highly. On claiming they gave a verbal confirmation, allowing my father to buy replacement parts as quickly as possible. Also when choosing his last car they were happy to insure him fully comp that day on any car he would buy under his current policy. Rather than buy a Ferrari he bought a Hyundai Tucson. Customer service seems to be NFU selling point.

As far as I am aware their policies are open to all, not just farmers.

Whenever I have asked for a quote from NFU for car or home insurance (and I live in a rural village) they have always been very much more expensive for the same cover. However my tractor is insured with them!

My car is insured with NFU and I am most definitely not a farmer.

Premium isn’t the cheapest I could find but is competitive. Cover is better than average with things like full EU cover included and dealings with local agent have been very pleasant.

No claims made so cannot comment on that aspect.

Just thought I would try NFU £585 for husband wife full no claims CLK 320CDI
Going with Swift cover £285 seems more like it:thumb:
Such a rip off some of the other firms on that list of top ten insurers Rias wanted over £700 and more than sent me to India so I hung that call up :dk:

I like LV; they are competitive on price; easy to read literature and best of all they have a UK based call centre with friendly people that do not deal with you like a robot. :)

overall rating so not just price

Plenty of people never change their insurer. Are quite happy. But have no basis for comparison.

Others chop and change. Are actually better treated. But never happy. And compare like mad.

Interesting perhaps then that two of the top 3 are over 50s specialists. Which perhaps says something about the way the survey results will be skewed. And perhaps that a higher proportion of this age sector are in the former category rather than the latter.

NFU seem to be rated very highly for customer service in most surveys, certainly in autoexpress for the last couple of years, but like others they are usually significantly more expensive for me than most of the competition.

I do have them for my home and contents insurance and they are competitive in that area.

I would have to possibly question that statement for 2 reasons.

1. The over 50's often have more time on their hands to surf the net looking for better deals.;)

2. People of pension age tend to count the cost of things more than the younger age group due to pending decreased income. :( They recognise they are in the "driving seat" in risk profile terms :) and are well aware they can shop around.:thumb:

I use NFU for ALL of my insurance. Business, private, horses, horse box etc and they are fantastic.

The customer service is 100%. Their prices are excellent too.

I doubt I would ever use anyone else.

I also use NFU for my business insurance, personal car insurance and company vehicles insurance. Being a mutual gives them greater flexibility on pricing.

NFU have a good reputation, but I checked their price last September and they were 50% more expensive than Esure.

I'm getting on a bit myself. And I have a lot of aged neighbours and relatives. And one of the things I've noticed (with some anger because companies know it) is that a good number of the oldies might count their pennies but they also are quite loyal customers - it's very very difficult (without underhand practices! to get them to shift insurer, broadband supplier, bank accounts, or energy supplier.

And no - it's not universal stereotype.

Which is why I used my words carefully: "higher proportion"
