The fact it says about servicing being more relevant to mileage than schedule always gets me thinking as I know of plenty that “do not need a service because it’s barely used”

Realistically speaking, that's fair enough up to a point; I wouldn't want to have a car that does only, say, a thousand miles a year go five years between services, though.
Annual servicing even on a low-mileage car is indicative of a caring owner, and will make it easier to sell when the time comes. Depending on the car, though, the owner may have peace of mind, but may well not recover the extra cost of the servicing over what it would have cost to have it serviced every couple of years on mileage rather than yearly on schedule with a little-used car.
