£5k summer fun - Blimey!

Ah well, my friend missed the boat then.

NP, he's busy with other stuff now (families, eh?) and it wasn't going to hang around, even at this time of year

Glad it's been picked up here though and happy that I (for once) flagged what appears to be a straight, well looked after and well priced car for someone.

Hope it does you well, tyre choice aside....

The ad does say 'good tyres'. Depends on your definition of 'good', I suppose, and it doesn't actually say they're all good anyway...

Never more than four at once, though. Cheap as chips for what it is, really, and will replace the CLK, of course. I just hope nothing else in that colour combination comes to my attention...

Actually, now I think about, Sod's law, probably the three Contis will be well worn, so it will need a complete set of tyres (£600-ish) for the next MoT. If so, we shall need to have a wee chat about that. I shall take my mallet, rubber, massaging of the scrotum for, with me on Monday...

Then the wheels will need a refurb, Sat Nav will need an update, a wind deflector, some new mats, a 'detail' etc etc ;)

All part of the fun of 'onboarding' a new car

I know about the wheel refurb; £275 the lot, by BJV Engineering in Flaunden. APS 20, so no satnav. The wind deflector comes with it. The mats? Patterns are cheap. Detail? I've never bothered yet; it's just an old banger, and so long as it's presentable, I'll be happy. I'd definitely look to reneghotiate the price a bit if it needed new tyres, though.

Apart from the wheels, there may be a couple of other little things, but as I said to the vendor, it's a 100k miler and I don't expect perfection. Of course, it may be a bit of a shed in the metal, but I don't think so.

I'll stick with silver; I don't care for anything else on wheels.

"Classic", I'd say. Or just "classy"; or "tasteful"...

Chinese New Year: Good luck and prosperity to you.

It's the year of the Snake, so good for losing the old skin and moving forward.

To quote Quentin Wilson, "buy the owner more than the car." (But at least buy what you see and drive, rather than the photos in the advert)

Great colour combo, and celebrate that two of the Contis are less than two years old, so can't have done many miles

Would the wheels be better replaced with excellent used than be refurbished ? (Just a thought, seeing the car parked near the sea in Pompey.)

Looking forward to news after your inspection

I say, Holmes, brilliant piece of deduction on the age of the front Contis! Not more than about 7K miles.

I'll take advice from the refurbisher on whether the wheels are OK to refurbish; judging by the logos on them, they may well have been done at least once already.

Every tyre has the week it was moulded on it if you know what to look for. It stopped me buying "new" tyres that had been at the tyre place for nearly 3 years!!!!

I don't think these alloys were diamond cut as standard, and in any event, this style has AMG set well back from the lip.

I think if redoing the powder coat finish they appear to have currently, this is much more forgiving and they could withstand quite a few refurbs?
