Nice Hammer

Flush boot spoils it IMO ....

326hp is standard for an E500 isn't it ? Hammers were 380 plus ...

I don't like it either, hopefully they just customised a filler panel rather than the metalwork...

It does state that it's just "hammer look" doesn't it?

Correct - This is NOT a real Hammer vehicle. Standard E500 with various mods, I think it looks pretty good actually. Only things I would replace are the chrome additions on the wings and the headlight brows.

A lovely car, there are a few bits I'd change as a matter of taste but otherwise it's great.

I can only imagine what a W124 goes like with an engine out of my car.

Thanks for all the comments. I have set myself a goal. In 12 months from now I am going to have one of these, or an E60. Now got something to strive for. Yes I know.........petrol costs, but hey, its a weekend fun car :D (dont tell the wife please, I want to live :o )

Ahh...thats what I said when I bought my E500...We said its only going to be a weekender, but what happened? Ended it driving it everyday after work, petrol is painful, but its really worth it!!

E60 Ooohh now you're talking

Think u might wanna buy a petrol stn with that as well - i hear there is a discount for buying both at the same time......;) ;)

Good luck for finding an E60! Not many in the UK - might have to import. There are many E500's converted to E60's at some point, although if your lucky you might be able to snap up an ORIGINAL E60 AMG. Pushes out an apparently 380BHP, although realistically its 420BHP. Mercedes-Benz didnt want to release that the E60 had more power than thier flagship 600SEL (which has 418BHP). If this is true im not sure, but the E60 is suppost to be one HECK of a car. Good luck!

Specs on the genuine Hammers were as follows:

5.0 engine...340 bhp
5.6 engine...360 bhp
6.0 engine...380 bhp

These were the quoted figures but as each engine was very individual, most engines would produce in excess of the official figure.

Only 29 Hammers produced for world wide consumption...most in the States as CE conversions....Saloons accounted for @ 10 cars.

The low production rate was mainly down to price...the first Hammers in 1985/6 costing £70,000 and the last 6.0 CE that was converted in 1990 cost an eye watering $160,00....thats right $160,000!!!

Only 2 RHD drive cars produced, one a 5.0 and the other a 5.6 which was owned by Jeff Lynn from ELO....car was subsequently written off in a crash.

Of the handful that were produced there are only a handfull left in original condition...some owners further down the ownership chain were unable to maintain the engines on the cars due to lack of access to trained AMG engineers so they ended up swapping the M117 Quad Cam engines for the later and less powerful M119 5.0 engine.
