Noise on braking

Hi all, I have noticed that sometimes when I brake I hear a clonk (popular word today) - it sounds almost like something is sliding forward and hitting something. It comes from the front of the car, and usually happens during the first and second time I brake in a journey, after that it doesn't seem to happen... Any ideas?

Is it possible that it's something resetting after I take the handbrake off?

Sticky piston or pad??? possibly, nothing to do with the parking brake if at the front

If it does it when braking lightly then not drop links

Does it happen if you reverse, brake, forward, brake etc.

I have had similar where the "slides" the caliper is mounted on are worn slightly, so the caliper moves slightly in either direction the first time you brake in that direction (not sure if this applies to 202 calipers though).

Similarly a pad that is just a little undersize and can move in the caliper could create a simialr effect.

It only seems to happen when braking forwards, and does happen when braking lightly. Usually if I brake hard I have already braked a few times before in the journey - I'll try that later and see if it happens then too

Im actually going to get new pads, and possible disks within the next couple of weeks - would they resolve this kind of issue at the same time?

Just ask them to clean up and lubricate the sliding shoe part, as it stands it will wear out the pads and disc.

Excellent, thanks :)
