Noisy airmatic pump

Hi, Temperatures have dropped to -3 in the UK and since then I can now hear my pump, before it was silent.

Is this normal?

Also does the pump turn on/off during a journey?

Having just had my suspension pump replaced, I would say it may be on the way out, and no the pump is always on when the car is running. The only thing that happens is if the suspension is set in the high position, at something like 40mph it will automatically drop to the low position for stability.

The Airmatic in a W220 will cancel at 80mph.
