I have a W211 53 plate. The Nokia 6310i kit is just fine by me but I would prefer it not to switch itself off after the prescibed period left in the car on its own. I'm told that it cant be hard wired into a fuse as its got some sort of fibre optics or other or maybe something to do with the canbus. Anybody know different?

The phone cradle might have an interface but the phone certainly hasn't. there must be a way to bypass the pick up line.
It sounds like it has a predetermined time after ignition off then shuts down just like the radio, but I bet there is still power to the cradle.
That feed needs finding and linking straight to the phone charger output connector.

I`m sure if you put an entry in the phonebook, something in german, and set the number as 60, it stays on longer.

I was hoping someone would know which wire to fiddle with. I'm not too keen on all this canbus stuff.

Mine doesn't always wake itself up again, so I have to remember to check it after resuming a journey.

That's partly my problem too Rory. It's been suggested that I take the battery off the phone for a while to let it rest (?) Didn't work for me but maybe worth a try. Another thread somewhere thought that Orange could supply duplicate SIM cards so the phone could be left in its holder permanently. I'm going to enquire about that.
