After a lot of procrastination I've decided I really can't put up with the current Comand & Parrot 9200i set up in my car any longer. It does everything I need but with the remote control, 2.5 inch screen and microphone it just makes the car look cluttered.
I'm wanting to fit an Android head unit but need to know if my car being a non Bose, non multi disc changer set up has an amplifier or anything else that would necessitate stripping half the interior of the car out to rerun wires all over the place.
Is anybody able to tell me what's in the car and where please?

You could do a EPC lookup for fibre optic components (not sure if yours is D2B or MOST) - it will show all the bits linked via the network.
Use your full VIN to see the exact configuration.

I'm pretty sure on a 2003 model it's D2B and presumably I would have to or join something to get the full read out from EPC ?

2003 SL without BOSE has no external amplifier - If its a UK SL500/55/600 it would have come with COMAND 2.0 with the nav disk in it. If its a SL350 then it either has COMAND or the Audio-30 non-satnav. Both are D2B technology.

In summary there is power and speaker wiring at the back of the stereo. You may need to find an ignition feed or you can use a CAN-bus steering wheel control box that generates all the signals you need - the Chinese units probably come with this.
The problem with that generation car is that there is no fascia adapter to put a standard double DIN radio in without surgery (which we do very regularly) including cutting the dashboard wood trim. So I can see why you'd buy one of the Chinese units that fits without cutting - even though I suggest you get recommendations to find a good reliable one. In our experience radio reception can be a significant issue.

Cheers

It's a UK SL350 with a Comand unit with nav disk, I fitted an Xtrons unit to my previous S4 cabriolet on which the radio reception was better than the Audi head unit it replaced, I know the Chinese units are lower quality than such as an Alpine double DIN unit but I like the idea of keeping it looking stock rather than butchering the centre console to fit something but I do appreciate your advice.
This is the unit I was thinking of getting but I'm open to other suggestions?

So the listing in the above post by Iceboxautos who pride themselves in the listing as being UK based and providing customer service that was so good as to not bother saving £50.00 ordering direct from China (you actually save £60) with the usual scare tactic of "if anything goes wrong". I have never tried to deal with such an obtuse seller in all my life to the point that I would rather take the chance and order direct than order from these people who are painful in the extreme to try and deal with. :(
