You know what a tether is? well I'm at the very end of one now!!!

I hope one of you excellent people can help.

a few weeks ago, I felt a misfire and loss of power. this emerged when I replaced the battery. It then cleared and I forgot about it. Yesterday, Iput my foot down and off it shot until it hit about 4000rpm when it just wouldn't pull like it did. now when it pulls away from the traffic lights, it goes like a good un then just hits a brick wall at about 4000rpm. anyone have any ideas?? I am thinking this car is jinxed having JUST got it back after hitting a pothole. i am nearly p***ed off with it now

As it's now one of the cheaper parts to replace you many as well replace the MAF to elimnate it, if not cure your problem.

Probably worth getting the fault codes read and cleared at the same time.

IIRC, mine cost £245 + vat from MB last month. DON'T buy a pattern one from ebay, it's a waste of money, trust me...

It sounds as if the car is in "limp home" mode. The 4000 limit is a protection for the engine in limp home mode.

You may need the engine ECU code reset.

Thanks for that. Here's the latest. After having a word with various people, they al confirmed my thoughts of a faulty maf sensor. to test this, I floored the throttle and sped off ( on a clear fast stretch of road of course!!). Sure enough, as it got to about 4500rpm in first, it started losing it's kick. then I disconnected the maf sensor which caused the engine to stall. I restarted it then did the same procedure. After the ecu decided the maf sensor wasn't working and reset itself, the car absolutley flew right up to the rev limiter :bannana: . SO I'll be mainly looking for a maf and ecu reset soon.

Good work..
