Been hearing some rattling noises when accelerating recently and thought I had a blown catalytic converter. Luckily I found out today that my neighbor is a Porsche mechanic . . . he heard the noise when I pulled in the driveway and didn't hesitate to crawl under and have a look this afternoon. He found the problem in 2 seconds, a clamp on the exhaust pipe has lost it's bolt and now the clamp is shaking. It'll be a quick fix in the morning. :D

A nice non-expensive problem - that's what I like (but never get!).

He's not the guy opposite-ish me that annoys me every sunny day cleaning his beautiful violet Porsche is he?

Although now I am thinking, what car does a Porsche mechanic drive?

I got lucky this time, VERY lucky.

No, this guy owns a slightly modded Escort. Although he regularly takes home a 911, for "testing purposes". He works for an independant Porsche garage near to us but I can't remember the name.

Name that part.

Can anyone tell me what the higlighted part is called? And further to that, what holds it in place? This is the part which is rattling quite loudly everytime I accelerate. I'm guessing it's some sort of guard/shield, so it might have a name like, XYZ Shield, but I have no clue. The picture was taken from the ground looking up. Towards the bottom left is the rear of the car and to the right the pipe heads up towards the header on the engine.

It's just a heat shield. It loks like it should be held to the exhaust with the bolts poking through it.

That's what I thought, but up close they don't look like bolts but more like pegs.
