Having heeded the warnings from Alfie and Richard about not using copied discs I have been searching for a later DVD for my NTG1 system as the car still has the original 2008 version.

I found this company that claims "OEM Factory pressed ,not copied"

Mercedes Sat Nav Update Discs | Map DVD

The price does seem low, certainly lower than that I was expecting, has anyone bought similar from them and if so any comments on quality / originality?

Thanks.

Maybe mass produced so not 'home copies' but will still not be genuine as genuine discs will be in original packaging. They are probably better quality and will contain the same information an original disc does

Going against thr grain, I've used a copied disk for over 2 years with no issues apart from 'loading navigation' once a month or so, a switch off/on again fixes it.

Excellent!
Will see how it goes!

I was certainly not a burnt copy as it was the silver reflective type with no discernable end of track mark. There were firmware updates but am unsure what they have changed :)

Was the firmware update automatic along with the map update?

You only see the firmware update happening on the COMAND screen. It did not take long.

It is DVD based so the new maps are not loaded anywhere just resident on the disc and the files read when required for routing etc.

I found the update time disturbing.

I have to say that hearing stories of discs furking up COMAND systems I was a little nervous!

If this DVD seems slow to load maps or hesitates it will go back and I will re-use the original V2008 for the interim.

I hope its drive by DVD as you mentioned. And new roads are on there. I copied it and sold it on.

Difficult to tell unless you did a file by file comparison with another disc what the road updates are., unsure what you mean by "drive by DVD".

Drive by DVD. New roads v old roads . htms.

As far as I am aware NTG1 systems have no data storage (possibly some buffer ROM) so data is read from the DVD as required by the mapping algorithm in conjunction with the positional info from the sat nav part.

I think that once a route is calculated you do not need to have access the DVD for further data unless you deviate off route and further calculations etc are required.
