Has anyone fitted a rear number plate to w 203 cclass useing a surround if not how do I drill new plate without leaving marks around holes?

All you do is connect the backing plate as if its a number plate.

Then you stick on the plate with sticky pads.

Takes 2 mins, looks great

I am still trying to find the black plate that screws on then you stick the number plate to it any suppiers or manufacturers? Believe its called a plinth?I have seen them on other Mercedes.

The eutags only hold the thin EU metal licence plates, plastic plates don't fit in them dispite what the website may say! You slide one end in and the other end bulges and won't shut! They're also cheap plastic so aren't worth the price.

Stealerships should charge literally no more than a couple of pounds for the plate frames, if they sell them at all (not all stealerships use them).

David b, Have look in the "MBClub vinyl thread" on the last or next last page you should see a pici of the rear end on my Coupe 203. If thats what you mean by a surround and bolt holes PM me. Its a piece of cake but intricate in so much as careful measuring is needed etc . The surround I have is one of those used by MB and VW with the bottom tag removed. I'd stick it in this reply but someone out there might patent said instructions as a cure for amnesia amnesia! should have writ insomnia, maybe alzheimers now.

Just had a rethink. Dont want appear secretive/selfish. If anyone wants I will post "how to" here but you were warned

I have tried 7 dealers 6 shops and 2 bodyshops, never seen so many blank faces , All it is , is a black backing plate that screws on then the number plate sticks to it ?

Where do you live? When I bought my car in Loughborough, the car came with the black back plates

David b, I am very matey with my local VW garage, they will give me one, surround that is!, where are you?. If you can let us know if the one in my picture is the one you want it will cost you no more than P&P, or if youre near me nothing. I cant say fairer than that and it will save you a fortune in shoe leather, lost hair and blank looks.
