:wallbash:

Hi all, opening my garage door to put my bike away, I managed to catch the bootlid of my car with the garage door!! Forgot that I had the boot open when I closed said door and then tried to open it with the boot closed d'oh......:wallbash:

Result: Caught the rear MB star, now damaged and a few minor scratches!

Has anyone replaced the rear star before at all? It seems to be stuck in the middle and I am unsure if it is stuck or attached through the metal. The rest of it has lifted and broken/cracked in three or four places.

Anyone have any idea how much I should pay for one at Stealers/EBay?? Obviously I will check later this evening but wanted to pick some brains first!

Thanks in advance
Tony

Bad luck...

I thought the stars were attached by three pins that push into plastic bushes fitted in the boot lid. They are quite tight and you need to be carefull when levering them off.

Bad luck!

Is there any evidence of sticky pad on the bits that have lifted? If not, then I would suggest it is mounted on pins.

Either way, you should be able to carefully pry off the remaining bits.

Good luck!

\if stuck on, you will need a heat gun or hairdrier to gently heat the badge to make the adhesive warm.
Then get a plastic spreader or credit card behind the badge and prise gently.

its mounted by push on pins... they will be tight and I would use a plastic trim tool to save your paint work.

Ok, seems like pins it is then! Thanks for the help everyone, just one of those moments where you have so many other things on your mind!! Have been kicking myself ever since lol.....

OUCH!!! £21 for a boot star!!! Be warned anyone else who needs to replace it!!
