Can anyone tell me if there would be a discernible difference if you had two Mercs side by side one in Obsidian black metallic and the other just non metallic black? I have tried so hard to see little flashes of colour in certain lights to confirm the difference but to me it just looks black and not metallic! The astral black Mini coluor has some lovely effects in certain light so to me obsidian ( found the word in Bill bryson's short history of everything the other day!) is a little disappointing .

The easiest way for you to see the difference is go to Halfords & hold the 2 aerosol can colours together.

yes there is... when obsidian black is nicely polished and you look in direct sunlight or in a good light at least you will see the gunmetal flakes in the paint. Looks stunning.

check the colour code on the vin sticker , non metallic black is code 040

+1 - in the right light, and with all the swirls taken out, Obsidian black is actually quite metallic-ey...

They're both a bugger to keep clean too!
