the thinking behind Merc fronts getting to be more upright is that surveys showed customers want a more aggressive and powerful look, along with the stance in the rear view mirrors suggesting to the driver ahead "to get over, I want to pass you".

This was outlined to a group of us at a Merc technical seminar at Milton Keynes about 5 years ago.

With the SL in particular Merc wants to build on it's heritage and want the look of the traditional SL's ie the star with bar across the front like 107 and older 300SL.

I think its good news! I was afraid that MB would bring out a very desireable facelifted car that would make me want to spend (unavailable ) money to go out and upgrade to one!

Im pleased to say I wont and that I think its ghastly. My current R230 model continues to look one of the most beautiful cars in the world...hurrah!

Hell it's CLS-y. And what a solid looking front. We'll grow to love it... Maybe it's colour-sensitive.

It has grown on me and I think it looks great. I think peoples problem will be seeing the old one go as it was such a great design never to return.

They both have the airscarf that I can see

The AMG seats have decals on the head rest, and I cant really see in very well. Thanks the AMG front is normally not the same and that would account for it.

They arent the same on this one ether, The are virtually the same, only a Merc geek such as myself? (dork) may spot the difference - the Vertical supports head out from the star on the AMG and inwards for the standard on the bumper.

The big difference is under the bumper, the aprons are nothing like the same, and that goes for my car with the AMG body kit. the current AMG front only has small differences over the standard.

I also noticed that the car in the picture had distronic
