Hey all,
I was browsing a MB forum the other day and found a VIN decoder. So I thought, "great, let's check out the VIN on my W124 E220."

So I did... However, the decoder came up saying the VIN is invalid.. I am SURE that the VIN is typed in correctly..

Does that mean my car's VIN is somewhat forged?

I attached a pic of my VIN for your reference..
The pic might be unclear.. but it reads:
WDB1240222C041584

Thanks for any info.,
Jeff

it reads:WDB1240222C041584
WDB = european manufacturer or destined for european market
124 = chassis type
022 = saloon E220
2 = right hand drive
C = factory C (wherever that is)
041584 = sequential/series number

The numbers are all there, I will fire the number into the 124 EPC and see what it says. Some older cars come back with a choice as if the database is incomplete, maybe yours is one of those...

Oh... Thanks... So that means the VIN plate is not forged right?
The previous owner of this car is my dad (owned it from new)...
I was just trying to make sure the car hasn't had an accident that I don't know of..

Thanks,
Jeff

P.S. Where can I find the 124 EPC ?

I am pretty sure that 'C' is Sindelfingen, Germany, I know for sure that 'F' is Bremen.

Jeffrey,
I'd say that the structure of your VIN code looks legit to me.

EPC or Electronic Parts Catalogue are specific software databases that belong to Daimler Chrysler. Therefore it's not something that are easily found but I guess they crop up on eBay... Everything crops up on fleabay ;) :rolleyes: :devil:
