Hi

My car is telling me that it requires nectar (oil!) to keep it on the go. I've looked at the manual which tells me how to read the dipstick (thanks MB), but not what grade of oil is required?

I'd be grateful for advice!

Regards

David

Mobil 1 5 W/ 40 has been the one used until late by MB though now they use others that are cheaper like Shell Helix Plus Synthetic 5W-40

Its rated as 229-3 for MB

David. If you would like some Shell Helix Ultra Fully Synthetic 5w40 for £3.80 per litre instead of the usual £13.99 per litre, see my thread under the For Sale section or send me a PM. I can send it by carrier for a very reasonable price if you can't collect.

David, you might want to check the manual. I know MB handbooks are a nightmare when it comes to telling you what oil to use.
Malcolm is my hero and I'm risking him smacking me round the ears for this but I'd read somewhere that the brand new 320 CDI engine used an even more upgraded oil to MB Specs 229.31 or 229.51, however you can use the 229.3 or 229.5 for top ups.
I'm probably quite close to you. DN4

Mike is good/safe to deal with and the oil is a bargain price (even more than when *I* bought some from him! ;) )

Fingers crossed I got it right - it's too late now anywhere. You are about 5 miles away from me - I am in Bawtry.

Kind regards

David
