Hi everyone, am hoping someone will be able to reassure me as I have the dreaded low oil pressure reading.
The car is off road and ever since I've had it the pressure has been between 1 and 0 on idle.
The car starts first time in all weather and idles smoothly, on acceleration there are no knocks squeals bangs etc and the guage does rise on acceleration up to 2 and a bit above, when u ease off the throttle the guage drops to 0 and occasionally rises to 1.
There's no excessive smoke, no sludge under the oil filler and the oil smells normal and is topped up.
I have run it to temp around 80 degrees and left it running and it doesn't cut out or stall and ticks over smoothly.
If I didn't have a guage i would not even consider there to be a problem but have read so many threads that I can't see the wood for the trees.
If, I do have a problem, what are the tell tale signs as running wise I can't fault it, and there are no obvious issues, ie overheating/stalling irrational idling etc and it hasn't got galactic miles on the clock the odometer reads 76000 and by the inside condition and the fact the driver seat is excellent I am inclined to believe it although I have no history.. I am hoping it's just a naff guage but I hoped someone might have a similar situation. Thanks guys

When was the oil last changed ? If you haven't had the car long and have no history for it then I would make an oil and filter change a priority.

This may improve the oil pressure reading but even if it doesn't it will benefit your engine.

I've had it since October and other than regularly running it on the drive I've not started any restoration/maintenance work yet, so an oil and filter change is on the cards soon so hopefully that with improve it, thanks for the advice
Regards, matt
